The Role An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Waste Services Team for an Environmental Services Coordinator to support our new food waste service. The successful candidate will play a key role in leading the day-to-day delivery of food waste collection services across Bromsgrove and Redditch.
Working closely with operational staff including support officers, drivers, and management, you will help ensure the effective delivery of a busy frontline service whilst maintaining high standards of customer service. This is a varied and challenging role requiring excellent verbal and written communication, organisational and problem-solving skills. The position may require flexible working across any of our depot sites to support operational requirements as and when required.
Key Requirements You will: Hold a full Class 2 (Category C) HGV driving licence. Hold a valid Driver CPC qualification card and digital tachograph card. Have a working knowledge of tachograph regulations and operation. Be confident managing day-to-day operational issues within a busy frontline service. Be able to work flexibly across both Bromsgrove and Redditch operational depots. Demonstrate a commitment to excellent customer service and continuous service improvement.
Have a good understanding of health and safety practices and how these apply to the role and service area and their impact. Skills and Experience We are looking for a motivated individual with experience in a management, supervisory, or operational support role within waste services or a similar service environment. Successful candidates will be able to demonstrate: Proven ability in leading and developing a team, including managing conflict and contrasting team dynamics.
Experience of supervising and managing frontline operational teams. A good working knowledge of waste collection operations. Strong communication and interpersonal skills. The ability to liaise effectively with operational staff, residents, and management. Competence in Microsoft Word, Excel, Teams and other web-based systems. The ability to learn and use a range of service specific management and office-based computer systems.
Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail. A flexible and proactive approach to problem solving. The ability to work under pressure whilst maintaining service standards and integrity. Desirable Criteria Experience within a local authority waste management environment. Experience dealing with customer enquiries and service complaints. Knowledge of waste collection legislation, health and safety requirements, and vehicle operations.
Previous experience supporting service performance monitoring and operational planning. Experience of budgetary and project planning management.
