The Derby is an oversubscribed 11 -16 co -educational comprehensive school serving approximately 930 students from a diverse range of backgrounds. At the heart of the school is a determination to improve life chances and provide an excellent education for ev ery young person. High expectations, inclusion and strong pastoral care are central to its culture, alongside a belief that all students should be given the opportunities, experiences and support they need to flourish.
The school has a strong track record of academic performance and has consistently achieved positive Progress 8 outcomes. Alongside this, significant investment in facilities has enhanced the breadth of the curriculum, including dedicated spaces for performing arts, science, sport, design and technology, outdoor learning and SEND provision. In July 2026, The Derby High School joined Prestolee Multi Academy Trust, becoming the Trust's first secondary school.

You will not only lead The Derby through the next stage of its journey but will also have the opportunity to contribute to the development of secondary education across the Trust as we continue to grow. As Headteacher of The Derby, you will work closely with the CEO, Executive Team, Local Governing Board and Trustees, and will be an important member of our wider leadership community. We are seeking a Headteacher who is ambitious for every student and who can inspire the same ambition in others. We want a leader who is visible, values -driven and committed to the highest standards of education; someone who can develop and empower staff, build strong relationships with students and families, and combine educational excellence with effective strategic and organisational leadership.
