We're looking for a Junior Data Officer to join our team in Edinburgh. The Junior Data Officer supports the organisation in improving how data is managed, understood, and used. The role focuses on data governance, data quality, and data privacy, providing an excellent opportunity to build knowledge and experience across all three areas. Working alongside experienced Data Officers and business stakeholders, you will support the maintenance of data catalogues and documentation, support assessments and monitoring activities, assist with regulatory and compliance requirements, and contribute to projects that improve the way data is managed across the organisation.
This role is designed for someone who is eager to learn and develop specialist knowledge across Data Office disciplines. You do not need to be an expert, as training and mentoring will be provided by the team. We are looking for someone who is curious, motivated, and enjoys solving problems, building relationships, and working with others to deliver practical improvements. Strong communication skills, a willingness to learn, and an interest in data and the asset management industry are the most important qualities we're looking for.
Key Responsibilities for the role include: Develop and improve governance: Support the creation and refinement of practical data governance policies, frameworks, and procedures that are easy to understand and implement. Promote ownership and stewardship: Clarify accountability for data assets, encouraging responsible management and trust in data across the organisation. Engage with stakeholders: Build strong relationships across business functions to understand data needs, challenges, and opportunities, work hands-on to deliver real business value.
Data Culture: Promote a data-driven culture through training, communication, and support to boost data literacy and awareness. Implement cataloguing and lineage: Drive the adoption of tools and practices that document, track, and make priority datasets easily discoverable, supporting transparency and compliance. Champion data quality: Support teams to implement practical data quality controls and embed effective processes for managing, escalating, tracking, and reporting data quality issues across the business.
Manage privacy risks: Oversee the handling of personal and sensitive data, ensuring compliance with company policy and privacy regulations. Oversee compliance and risk: Monitor adherence to data regulations (e.g., GDPR, CCPA), proactively identify risks, and act as a contact for audits and regulatory reviews. Support change management: Guide the adoption of new data policies, tools, and processes, ensuring smooth integration into business operations.
Ability to engage and collaborate with stakeholders. Good communication skills as you will be translating complex data concepts to non-technical audiences. Strategic thinker with a proactive approach to solving data challenges. Commitment to continuous learning and staying current with industry trends, technologies, and best practices. It would also be beneficial to have: Asset management industry knowledge.
Knowledge of data governance, data quality, and / or data privacy. Understanding of how data could support business.
