Lecturer in Media Location: Farnborough, Hampshire Contract: TBC Type: Permanent Institution: Farnborough College of Technology Salary: Competitive Salary and Excellent Benefits. Full Time, Part Time, Sessional positions available. To Start from September 2026 We are seeking a theory-driven creative media practitioner with a strong understanding of policy, professional and industrial practice within film, television and creative media, who is also credible and confident in production and post-production environments.

This individual will bring a critical, research-informed perspective to creative education, enabling students to understand why creative decisions matter, how work operates within professional, legal and ethical frameworks, and how creative practice functions in real-world industry contexts. Alongside this, they will be able to support, supervise and quality-control practical production work, from concept through to delivery.

The role requires someone with a broad overview of the creative production spectrum, with particular strength in theory, critical analysis, reflective practice, legal/ethical understanding and professional workflows, underpinned by solid technical and project-management experience. Core Role Capabilities: A practitioner-theorist who can apply media and visual theory (semiotics, representation, audience models) directly to creative practice.

Strong understanding of industry structures, freelance and studio business models, and professional expectations within film, television and media production. Confidence teaching and supporting HE-level research, critical writing, referencing and reflective evaluation. Working knowledge of legal and ethical issues in creative production, including copyright, IP ownership, contracts, releases and licensing.

Credible experience in production and post-production environments, including directing processes, editing workflows, and collaborative project delivery. Ability to manage and quality-control live, client-led or externally set briefs, balancing creative ambition with professional constraints. Clear understanding of risk management, health & safety and safe studio practice in production contexts.

Experience guiding students through iterative creative processes, supporting autonomy while maintaining academic and professional standards. In addition, you will need to be an enthusiastic and motivated individual who can engage with FE students to ensure that they reach their full potential. This could also be an excellent opportunity for a first-class applicant who has worked in the creative media arts industry and is looking to move into education.
