The Opportunity Company, Department : Nova Scotia Power, Energy Delivery Services Location : Sackville, NS Type of Employment: Regular, Full-Time - On-site Closing Date : September 25, 2026 We are currently seeking a Manager - Engineering & Planning . Reporting to the Senior Manager of Engineering and Planning within Energy Delivery Services, the Engineering Manager is responsible for the safe, reliable, and efficient engineering support, and execution of distribution system initiatives across the province.

Key elements of this role include: As a key member of the Energy Delivery Services team, you will lead a team of engineers that are responsible for delivering a safe, reliable and efficient engineering designs while meeting regulatory obligations and operational performance targets. Responsibilities: Provide leadership and oversight for engineering activities supporting the design, operation, maintenance, and planning of the electrical substation and distribution system.

Ensure engineering work is completed in accordance with utility standards, protection philosophies, regulatory requirements, and accepted engineering practices. Provide direction and guidance on complex engineering issues, operational challenges, and customer-impacting projects. Establish consistency in engineering decisions, technical reviews, and application of corporate standards across the province.

While Collaborating with Operations, Asset Management, System Control, and Capital Delivery teams to ensure safe and reliable operation of electrical infrastructure. Support Strategic system planning and modernization initiatives involving protection technologies and system automation. Responsible for the governance, and continuous improvement of protection and control practices supporting the electrical distribution system.

Support outage restoration activities, emergency response efforts, and major system events through the provision of engineering expertise and operational decision support. Provide strong fiscal leadership, including resource planning and budget management, to meet business and financial objectives. Identify, lead, and champion process improvement initiatives, working collaboratively across teams to enhance efficiency, effectiveness, and customer outcomes.

Champion a customer-first approach, ensuring customer needs are met while achieving experience targets and performance metrics. Lead and develop a high-performing team by fostering a positive and respectful work environment, ensuring strong safety practices, and driving operational excellence. Maintain high levels of employee engagement, morale, and productivity through coaching, development, and inclusive leadership practices.

These skills will make you successful: To thrive in this role, you recognize yourself in most of the following competencies and skills listed below: A Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a higher designation. A combination of education and relevant experience are required. Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation, or eligibility for registration with Engineers Nova Scotia. 7-10 years of leadership experience in a utility with related electrical distribution systems, utility operation, and engineering governance with a strong focus on safety and customer service excellence.

Knowledge of Substation Operation, Protection and Control Systems, and Power System reliability principles is an asset.
