To plan and deliver high quality teaching and learning that inspires, challenges and supports students to achieve their potential. We are seeking an enthusiastic and committed Head of Department. The successful candidate will be passionate about delivering high-quality teaching. The Head of the Maths Department will be responsible to a line manager in the Senior Leadership Team for the management of learning and teaching throughout the department.

This will involve: Ensuring high quality learning experiences for students by: The teaching of Maths across all Key Stages; The review and implementation of schemes of work and resources to meet examination board specification requirements; The implementation of school procedure and policies on assessment, marking and reporting on student progress; The sharing of good teaching and learning practice across the department; Analysis of students' examination results and current assessment data in order to identify and tackle student underachievement.

Leadership of a team and development of staff by: Managing and deploying department staff; Supervising and monitoring the work of department colleagues; Arranging and participating in the staff appraisal process, in consultation with the SLT line manager; Planning and minuting regular department meetings; Supporting colleagues in the maintenance of high standards of student behaviour; Establishing and maintaining professional standards within the department; Organising opportunities for colleagues to share good practice in a range of ways from learning walks, observations and the effective sharing of resources; Ensuring that the department keeps up to date with developments within the teaching of their subject; Advising the Headteacher and SLT line manager on the appointment of department staff; Caring for the personal career and development of department staff, particularly early career and student teachers.

The effective management of resources by: Managing the department budget; Identifying departmental needs (long and short term); Allocating and controlling department equipment, books, stationery, etc to ensure the most efficient use and minimum loss or wastage; Preparing orders for resources within an allocated budget; Ensuring that Department rooms and adjoining spaces are maintained as an attractive and safe learning environment.

Participation in school-wide activities by: Promoting the school's ethos and equal opportunities policy; Actively promoting and enforcing school expectations; Contributing to the further development of whole school policies and practices; Taking responsibility for a tutor group with responsibilities for student academic tutoring, behaviour, welfare and guidance; Representing the department at appropriate meetings; Supporting and advising the senior leadership team in policy and administration as appropriate; Carrying out appropriate school duties, including lunchtimes; Efficiently carrying out administrative requirements.

Assessment, recording and reporting: Keep appropriate records of students' work; Mark and return work set, including homework, within an agreed and reasonable time; Use the school's marking scheme at all times; Carry out assessment programmes, as agreed by the school, faculty or department; Complete records of achievement in line with school policy; Complete student reports in line with school policy.

Attend parents' evenings as required and keep parents informed about their child's performance and future targets; Undertake responsibility for a form group; Monitor and set targets for the social and academic progress of all students in the form; Endeavour to build up a good relationship with the students in the form, so that they will look to the teacher for support and advice; Command high standards of student behaviour and conduct at all times and support the school in its application of related policies; Report issues of concern to the appropriate senior staff; Attend and contribute to ke
