Our client, an established steel manufacturing company based in Amanzimtoti, KwaZulu-Natal, is looking for a Mechanical or Electrical Technician to join its new plant maintenance team. The successful candidate will provide technical support to the maintenance function, improving equipment reliability and helping plan and carry out maintenance work. Key Responsibilities Provide technical support to maintenance teams on mechanical or electrical plant equipment.
Diagnose complex equipment faults and recommend corrective actions. Develop and update preventative maintenance schedules and task lists. Carry out condition monitoring, such as vibration analysis, thermography or oil analysis. Lead root cause analysis on recurring failures and put solutions in place. Plan and coordinate maintenance work, shutdowns and equipment overhauls. Prepare technical specifications for spares, equipment and plant modifications.
Update and maintain drawings, schematics and technical documentation. Capture and analyse maintenance data in the CMMS to track equipment performance. Support the installation and commissioning of new equipment and projects. Ensure all work meets OHS Act requirements and company safety procedures. Be available for standby and call-outs as operations require. Requirements National Diploma / BTech in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering (or N6 with relevant trade experience).
Minimum 3–5 years' experience in a maintenance technician role in an industrial or manufacturing environment. Experience in steel, foundry, heavy engineering or a similar heavy industrial environment is strongly preferred. Strong technical fault-finding and analytical skills. Experience with CMMS software (e.g. SAP PM) is advantageous. Condition monitoring experience or certification is advantageous.
Computer literate (MS Office; AutoCAD is advantageous). Good understanding of the OHS Act and safe working practices. Valid driver's licence, clear criminal record and ability to pass a medical assessment.
