The campus is dedicated to being a strong partner in enhancing the educational, cultural, and economic development of the region it serves through community and civic engagement.Job Summary The Barista will be responsible for working with the food service director to maintain outstanding customer service, processing sales quickly, accurately and efficiently following drink recipes, and safeguarding company assets.Department-Specific ResponsibilitiesAccurately and efficiently operate point-of-sale (POS) cash register system within the established company guidelines, which includes accurately balancing cash drawers.Accurately follow drink recipes and procedures.Exercise creativity in implementing new or trending drinks.Greet all customers with fast, friendly, personalized service and develop a rapport with customers by learning their names, favorite drinks, and food items.Operate all food preparation equipment in a safe manner.Work in a team environment and perform work in a safe and efficient manner.Follow all sanitary procedures as required by IU.Perform other related work, as assigned.Qualifications EDUCATIONRequiredHigh school diploma or equivalent (such as HSED or GED).WORK EXPERIENCERequired2 years of experience in food service.LICENSES AND CERTIFICATESRequiredFood Safety (ServSafe) certification within 180 days from date of hire.SKILLSRequiredFriendly and service-oriented.Ability to work in a safe and efficient manner.Knowledge of health and safety regulations.Knowledge of professional cooking principles.Ability to respond to common food inquiries or complaints from customers and take appropriate action to resolve issues.Ability to work comfortably in a group environment and treat employees and customers with kindness and respect.Ability to be a flexible team player in a dynamic environment requiring a customer focused approach.Excellent interpersonal skills.Excellent communication, facilitation, and coaching skills.Dependable.Strong work ethic.Time management skills.Flexibility while working in a fast-paced environment.Understanding of and ability to follow oral and written instructions.Working Conditions / Demands This position requires tasks typically associated with back-of-the-house food service work.
It involves periods of both sedentary work and times of frequent movement about the workspace. This position requires using commercial kitchen equipment and tools and moving supplies. Effective communication skills are necessary.
