Physician-Radiation Oncologist

Physician – Radiation Oncologist Location: Keesler AFB, MS 39534 Shift: Monday–Friday, 0700–1700 Duration: Full time Education & Qualifications • MD or DO medical degree; successful completion of Residency in Radiation Oncology • Board Certified with the American Board of Radiology (ABR) • Current Mississippi medical license • Minimum 24 months of experience within the previous 3 years • No additional certifications required beyond Basic Life Support and those obtained during residency Job Responsibilities Patient Care • Review medical records and imaging to prepare for new patient visits, follow-ups, simulations, and on-treatment visits • Direct staff to obtain outside records and coordinate with non-military facilities as needed • Formulate treatment plans using national guidelines, medical literature, and clinical judgment • Manage routine cases including breast, genitourinary, head and neck, CNS, gynecologic, thoracic, gastrointestinal, and hematologic malignancies, as well as benign conditions (e.g., heterotopic ossification, keloids, acoustic schwannomas, trigeminal neuralgia, Graves' ophthalmopathy) Clinical Competencies • Nasopharyngoscopy • Stereotactic Body/Ablative Radiation Therapy (SBRT/SABR) • Stereotactic Radiosurgery (SRS) and Fractionated Stereotactic Radiation Therapy (FSRT), invasive and non-invasive head ring techniques • Total Body Irradiation (TBI) — patient selection, simulation, planning, and delivery • Electron treatment, 3D conformal therapy, IMRT, VMAT, DIBH, and 4DCT Consent & Simulation • Obtain informed consent prior to treatment • Provide simulation instructions (lab work, positioning, immobilization, contrast, scanning parameters) • Supervise simulation, place markers, and delineate isocenter (or delegate as needed) Treatment Planning • Complete contours within 3 working days of simulation • Review treatment plans within 1 working day of completion Conferences & CME • Represent Radiation Oncology at Tumor Conferences • Attend Service morning meetings and weekly chart rounds • Attend up to 1 CME conference annually (up to 1 week) Imaging & Quality Assurance • Review imaging daily prior to each fraction (MV portal films, kV/kV matching, marker match, CBCT) • Participate in chart rounds; monitor for toxicities and review patient management Clinical Trials • Assess and educate patients on clinical trial opportunities • Complete required documentation and assessments per protocol • May provide clinical investigation support (not eligible as Principal/Assistant Investigator) Documentation • Enter all clinical notes (H&Ps, interval histories, follow-ups, treatment summaries, on-treatment notes) within 3 working days • Verify accuracy of all prepared/transcribed reports Infection Control • Adhere to CDC guidelines and the Keesler Infection Control Program Academic & Teaching Duties • Participate in medical education for residents, students, technologists, and staff (subject to eligibility confirmation) • Co-sign clinical notes for supervised residents • May be assigned Section oversight within area of expertise Quality Assurance & Committee Participation • Complete up to 4 QA studies annually • Provide professional opinions/reviews for relevant boards/committees • Attend Service, Department, or Hospital meetings as scheduled • May perform peer review/QA functions (input only, no decision-making authority) • May participate in QI, Risk Management, and Utilization Management programs
