Power Systems Engineer: Location: Birmingham Employment Type: Permanent Salary: £45k to £50k Department: Power Systems Engineering About the Role: We are looking for a Power Systems Engineer to join a growing Power Systems Engineering Team within an established engineering consultancy. This an exciting opportunity to work on a diverse portfolio of technically challenging projects across sectors including healthcare, education, residential and commercial.
The role offers excellent breath across the power systems discipline, combining detailed technical design and analysis with client engagement, site work and project delivery. What You'll Be Doing: Your responsibilities will include: Designing electrical infrastructure from 230V/400V through to 11kV Designing distribution substations and private 11kV networks Undertaking electrical distribution network design up to 132kV Carrying out load flow and fault-level studies Undertaking protection and grading studies Performing harmonic analysis and voltage stability assessments Undertaking insulation coordination studies Designing substation earthing systems Developing HV cable routes and network designs Designing standby and peak-generation schemes Supporting embedded generation projects, including solar PV and wind Preparing and supporting G99 applications , including liaison with DNOs Undertaking arc-flash assessments Carrying out site surveys, investigations and inspections Producing technical reports, specifications and engineering drawings Liaising with contractors throughout project delivery Attending sites during installation, testing and commissioning Providing specialist power systems advice to wider building services and engineering teams Participating in design-team meetings and client presentations Reviewing contractor designs and installations About You: We are looking for someone with a genuine interest in power systems and a desire to develop their technical expertise.
Ideally, you will have: A degree in Power Systems Engineering, Electrical Engineering or a related discipline Previous experience working within an engineering consultancy or engineering environment Experience using power systems software such as ETAP, IPSA+, ERACS, DIgSILENT PowerFactory or similar Experience with AutoCAD Revit experience would be advantageous, but is not essential Strong analytical and problem-solving skills Good written and verbal communication skills The ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team A proactive approach and willingness to learn An interest in developing a long-term career within power systems engineering If you are interested please apply directly or send your updated CV to [email protected]
