Based at Rickmansworth, the Process Controller (Waste) ensures Maple Lodge Sewage Treatment Works operates effectively around the clock. Working full time on a permanent contract for Pertemps Thames Water, the postholder monitors processes via SCADA, responds to abnormal situations and escalates events when required. Outside standard hours, this person acts as the responsible site contact, directing Process Technicians so services meet agreed standards.

A salary of up to £40,000 per annum is offered, dependent on skills and experience. Candidates should demonstrate strong operational awareness, fault diagnosis and decision-making abilities, with the confidence to coordinate a team and manage competing priorities at one of the largest sewage treatment sites in the Thames Water estate. We are looking for a Process Controller to join Thames Water on a permanent basis.

Working as part of a team of process controllers you will be responsible for the effective running of Maple Lodge Sewage Treatment Works 24 hours a day. This is done using SCADA and responding to specific situations to ensure the relevant processes are brought under control or escalated to an event. Out of hours you will be the responsible person on site and will direct the Process Technicians to ensure that services are delivered in accordance to standards.

What makes this role unique? Every working day is different at Maple Lodge, which provides a very interesting, challenging and rewarding working environment. You will be at one of the biggest sewage treatment works on the Thames Water Estate and will receive full training and support for the Health & Safety, technical and process requirements related to the plant. What you will be doing as a Process Controller Being responsible for the overall operation of the Sewage Treatment Works and associated outstations for the plant and equipment.

Monitoring, collating and reporting data in order to ensure that statutory and regulatory compliance is met and the site meets regulatory quality standards and customer demand. Processing faults and advise suitable rectification by first fix, raising issues to the Site Management Team. Carrying out isolations to plant and issuing Permits to work as part of a safe system of work Assisting with on-site capital project works, co-ordinate maintenance and operational personnel raising reactive work when required.

Monitoring stock levels and request and take deliveries as required. Undertaking safety and security checks and taking responsibility for the health and safety of yourself and your colleagues. Operate and monitor the processes from the Control room using SCADA, and where necessary, go into the process area to carry out operations and when required, inspect the process area’s. Undergo training in safety procedures including confined space entry.

What skills are required for this role? Must be a team player. SCADA experience. Wastewater process experience and the ability to coordinate & prioritise work. Qualification in a technical discipline M, E or ICA would be advantageous (with Technical City and Guilds, ONC/OND, HNC/HND or equivalent) You must be able to work unsupervised on 12-hour shifts days and nights. Fully competent at using the appropriate Company IT systems.
