Reporting to Pertemps Thames Water, the Process Controller - Waste oversees operations at Beddington Sewage Treatment Works and Hogsmill STW in Kingston upon Thames. This full-time post, paying up to £46,000 annually based on experience, involves remote monitoring and control of wastewater treatment processes via SCADA, covering inlet flows through to full treatment, storm discharge, ammonia monitoring, digestion and Combined Heat and Power generation.
The successful candidate handles fault finding, intervention and emergency response to process or power failures. Key skills include SCADA proficiency, technical troubleshooting and the ability to manage varying workloads. Shift patterns apply across this 24/7 operational setting. We are currently recruiting for a Process Controller for Beddington Sewage Treatment Works. As the Process Controller, you will find that no working day is the same, overseeing the operation of not only Beddington STW but Hogsmill STW in Kingston upon Thames.
This will provide a very interesting, challenging, and rewarding working environment. What you’ll be doing as a Process Controller - Waste: Remote monitoring and control of a range of wastewater treatment processes via SCADA, such as inlet flows to full treatment, storm discharge, ammonia monitoring, digestion and generation via Combined Heat and Power Engines. Fault finding and intervention to maintain the treatment process.
You will also have to respond to emergencies, whether this be process failures or power failures. In such circumstances, you will remain calm and follow established procedures to escalate and then stabilise the process or isolate/identify the issue in hand. Comply with operational standards, completing necessary documentation including shift logs Taking responsibility for your own Health and Safety and Health and Safety on site.
You will highlight safety observations and take action to make the area safe where possible. You may be required to contribute to risk assessments and procedures that contribute to improving Health and Safety standards on site. Liaise with other departments including key personnel such as our Process Scientist, Maintenance, various principal contractors and other stakeholders that support Beddington and Hogsmill.
Maintain own technical knowledge/Training and keep up to date with changes in procedures and asset standards. Base location – Beddington STW, CR0 4TH Working pattern or hours – 38 hours a week, on a rota shift of 6 am till 6pm or 6pm till 6am. 3 days, 4 nights, 10 days off, 4 days, 3 nights, 18 days off. To thrive in this role, the essential criteria you’ll need is: We are looking for someone who has Process and Waste Treatment experience and is hands-on and practical with impeccable attention to detail and troubleshooting skills.
As this is a shift role, you will be working a 12-hour rotating shift and must be able to work unsupervised for long periods and be available to cover shifts as required by the TW shift agreement. Basic literacy, numeracy, and computer skills are essential as you will need to use email and operate plant computers/SCADA equipment. What’s in it for you?
