This is a permanent, full-time role that forms a critical part of the distribution network, ensuring that freshly baked bread, confectionary and crates are transported safely and efficiently between the bakery and various depots.

Reporting directly to the Distribution Manager, the successful candidate will uphold RCL Foods' high standards of hygiene, road safety and operational excellence in every aspect of the role. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced heavy-vehicle driver to build a long-term career with a reputable, industry-leading organisation. Key Responsibilities Transport bread, confectionary, personnel, materials and equipment between the bakery and designated depots, adhering strictly to planned routes and delivery schedules.

Maintain the vehicle in a clean and hygienic condition at all times, completing pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspection checklists and recording any faults or defects accurately. Assist with the loading and offloading of stock at the bakery and depots, verifying that the vehicle is safely and correctly loaded to prevent product damage and to ensure road safety is not compromised.

Collect returns and crates from depots and perform crate recovery tasks as required, maintaining accurate crate control documentation throughout the process. Complete all transactional documentation accurately and timeously, including invoices, delivery notes, loading schedules, vehicle log sheets, fuel slips and other related administrative forms. Monitor and report on the attendance and performance of the assigned van assistant to the relevant supervisor, ensuring the assistant is present and fulfilling their duties on every route.

Report all incidents — including accidents, vehicle or fuel theft, third-party property damage and hijackings — immediately to the Transport Supervisor or Fleet Controller and adhere to standard operating procedures. Adhere strictly to all statutory rules of the road, the Occupational Health and Safety Act requirements, and internal company policies at all times to safeguard personal safety, passenger safety and the safety of other road users.

Assist with additional driver duties outside of standard depot functions when required, demonstrating flexibility and a team-oriented approach. Requirements & Qualifications Education: Matric (Grade 12) or equivalent NQF Level 4 qualification. Licence: Valid Code 14 / EC Driver's Licence — this is a non-negotiable requirement for operating heavy vehicles on South African public roads.
