Safety Officer / HSE Professional

Chandler Macleod is seeking an experienced and motivated HSE Professional to provide site-based safety support for Rio Tinto across QAL and BSL for a 12-month period, with the possibility of extension. This is a fantastic opportunity for an HSE professional looking to gain valuable experience within a major heavy-industry environment. About the role Working closely with site-based operational teams, you will provide practical HSE support and help promote a proactive safety culture across the site.

Your responsibilities may include: Providing day-to-day HSE support to site-based teams Conducting field interactions, safety observations and site inspections Supporting incident reporting, investigations and corrective actions Assisting with risk assessments, JHAs, SWMS, Take 5s and safety documentation Coaching workers and leaders on safe work practices and site requirements Supporting compliance with safety procedures, policies and legislative requirements Participating in toolbox talks, pre-starts and safety meetings Monitoring hazards, controls and close-out of corrective actions Supporting onboarding, inductions and contractor safety requirements Building strong relationships with operational teams, site leaders and contractors About you To be successful, you will have: Relevant HSE / WHS qualifications, ideally a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent industry qualification Previous experience in heavy industry, construction, mining, manufacturing, processing or a similar site-based environment Approximately 1+ year of relevant HSE experience is welcomed, provided you have strong capability and the right attitude A practical understanding of safety systems, risk management, compliance and incident reporting Strong communication skills and confidence engaging with workers, contractors and site leadership A proactive, hands-on approach to workplace safety Ability to work effectively within operational environments Ability to undertake a pre-employment medical This is an excellent opportunity to work within a major industrial environment, build on your HSE experience and work alongside experienced operational and safety teams.
