School IT Technician Job Title: IT Technician Reports To: Headteacher Location: Myddelton College, Denbigh Contract: Full-time, year-round, permanent Salary: competitive dependent on experience __________________________________________________ Job Purpose To lead, manage, develop, and support the College's information technology infrastructure, ensuring reliable, secure, and effective provision of IT services for pupils, staff, parents, and visitors.
The IT Technician will be responsible for the strategic development of technology across the College, supporting teaching and learning, administration, boarding, safeguarding, cybersecurity, and digital transformation initiatives. __________________________________________________ Key Responsibilities Strategic Leadership Develop and implement the College's IT strategy in line with the School Improvement Plan.
Advise the Headteacher and Senior Leadership Team on emerging technologies and digital developments. Promote the effective use of technology to enhance teaching, learning, communication, and operational efficiency. Prepare and manage the annual IT budget. Plan future investment in infrastructure, hardware, software, and cloud services. __________________________________________________ IT Infrastructure Management Manage and maintain all IT systems across the College.
Ensure the reliability, performance, and security of: + Servers + Network infrastructure + Wireless systems + Internet connectivity + Telephony systems + CCTV systems (where applicable) Maintain disaster recovery and business continuity arrangements. Monitor system performance and proactively address issues. Manage hardware lifecycle planning and replacement schedules. __________________________________________________ Cybersecurity and Data Protection Lead the College's cybersecurity arrangements.
Implement and monitor appropriate security controls. Maintain: + Firewall protection + Endpoint protection + Multi-factor authentication + Password management procedures + Backup systems Ensure compliance with: + UK GDPR + Data Protection Act 2018 + NCSC guidance + Cyber Essentials standards Investigate and report security incidents and data breaches. Conduct regular risk assessments and security audits.
__________________________________________________ Educational Technology Support staff in the effective use of educational technology. Manage and support: + Microsoft 365 + Teams + OneDrive + SharePoint + Classroom technology + Interactive displays Assist with the implementation of digital learning initiatives. Provide training and guidance to staff. Support online assessment platforms and learning systems.
__________________________________________________ Management Information Systems Oversee the efficient running of the College Management Information System (MIS). Ensure data accuracy and integrity across all systems. __________________________________________________ User Support Lead the College helpdesk and support function. Ensure prompt resolution of IT issues. Develop and maintain service standards.
Provide technical support to: + Staff + Pupils + Boarding staff + Administrators Maintain asset registers and inventory controls. __________________________________________________ Procurement and Supplier Management Manage relationships with: + IT suppliers + Software vendors + Managed service providers + Telecommunications providers Obtain quotations and manage contracts. Ensure value for money and compliance with procurement procedures.
Monitor service agreements and supplier performance. __________________________________________________ Boarding IT Provision Ensure reliable IT services within boarding houses. Support boarders' access to appropriate technology. Maintain suitable filtering and monitoring systems in line with safeguarding requirements.
