Overview: The Section Chief, Hematology/Oncology provides administrative, programmatic, and clinical leadership to ensure the achievement of clinical, research, and educational goals in the field of hematology and oncology. Reporting to the Chief of Medicine, the Section Chief serves as a key clinical leader within the medical center. Responsibilities Include: Clinical Leadership: Oversee the delivery of comprehensive hematology and oncology services, including outpatient and inpatient care, infusion services, and consultative services.

Provide leadership, guidance, and direction to the Hematology/Oncology team, fostering a collaborative and innovative environment. Veteran-Centered Care: Deliver high-quality, patient-centered care with an emphasis on health maintenance, disease prevention, patient education, and the management of hematologic and oncologic disorders. Promote shared decision-making with veterans and their families to achieve optimal health outcomes.

Administrative Duties: Implement and oversee policies and procedures to ensure high standards of care within the Hematology/Oncology Section. Manage the operational aspects of the section, including staffing, budget, and resource allocation. Quality Improvement: Participate in continuous quality improvement initiatives and projects. Utilize various quality measurement tools to monitor and improve clinical performance and patient outcomes.

Educational and Research Activities: Support and contribute to the educational mission by mentoring and providing guidance to residents, fellows, and medical students. Encourage and engage in research activities to advance the field of hematology and oncology. Healthcare Coordination: Collaborate with other healthcare providers to develop individualized treatment plans for veterans. Coordinate care involving specialty services and ensure comprehensive healthcare delivery.

Use of Technology: Utilize the VA's electronic medical record system for documentation, ordering of tests, and communication with patients and healthcare team members.
