About the role: SEND / LLDD Teacher We are now looking for an enthusiastic and inspiring SEND teacher to join our Lifeskills faculty based at Merrist Wood College. Our team supports learners who face barriers to education, including young people with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND). Our pathways are aimed at supporting young people with a variety of sensory needs and a range of PMLD.

It operates from the Woodlands centre and surrounding classrooms on our Merrist Wood campus. The pathways are highly personalised and follow the preparation for adulthood framework using the principles of RARPA. The role of PMLD Tutor will be to lead a small team of Learning Support Assistants within the classroom, developing learning opportunities that broaden Skills for Life, work towards EHCP outcomes and also engage and access the wider community and the world of work.

Our learners benefit from greater levels of support, specialist interventions and therapies all delivered on site. Our staff team are highly trained to support young people and use specialist skills such as Makaton and PECS/AAC. You will be required to teach subjects such as Maths and English, money management, personal safety, accessing the community, leisure activities, problem solving and working as a team.

This is an exciting opportunity for a teacher with passion and drive, committed to helping learners build confidence, independence, and the skills they need for adulthood. This is a permanent, full-time position working 37 hours per week based at the Woodlands Centre and Merrist Wood College Campus. What do you need to be a successful SEND / LLDD Teacher at Activate Learning? The role of a PMLD Tutor is key to providing structure and support for young people with highly complex health, communication and learning needs.

You will be experienced in a range of skills and expertise that support the learning of young people with PMLD and be able to plan for, and deliver, high-quality teaching for young people with highly sensory and profound needs. You will have experience of working with a range of young people and be able to demonstrate highly skilled and creative learning opportunities that are differentiated and can demonstrate a good understanding of RARPA.

A PGCE or L5 equivalent Teaching qualification Previous experience in a PMLD setting as a tutor or teacher is preferred Strong knowledge of SEND combined with a broad subject background Ability to explain complex concepts in easy-to-understand ways Exceptional communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills Patience, resilience, and a positive attitude You should have a track record of achieving excellent outcomes in teaching.

You must be able to lead and develop the curriculum area in line with latest government policy. You will be responsible for evidencing learner progress and outcomes. Additionally, you will be open to undertaking training in a range of medical practices related to our learners. You will be self-motivated and be able to work as a team.
