Key Responsibilities Manage and develop relationships with electrical Balance of Plant (BOP) partners, including design consultants, electrical contractors, and equipment suppliers. Prepare BOQs, cost estimates, and support EPC proposal and tender submissions. Review, clarify, and negotiate technical scope, specifications, and project variations with clients and contractors. Develop and implement engineering systems, procedures, standards, and documentation.
Coordinate and manage electrical design reviews to ensure compliance with project requirements and industry standards. Support procurement activities for electrical equipment and materials from design through to commissioning. Assist Project Managers with contractor management and construction oversight. Support grid connection activities, compliance testing, and commissioning programmes. Ensure adherence to Quality Assurance (QA) and Quality Control (QC) requirements throughout project execution.
Develop project quality plans, inspection and test plans (ITPs), method statements, and quality procedures. Prepare weekly, monthly, and client-facing progress reports. Conduct inspections, verification, and witness testing of electrical equipment, including: Transformers Switchgear Protection systems UPS systems Generators SCADA systems Electrical panels and associated equipment Participate in project meetings, contractor progress meetings, and interface coordination sessions.
Monitor contractor performance, productivity, and resource allocation. Promote and maintain compliance with company safety, quality, and operational standards. Desired Experience & Qualification Bachelor's Degree or higher in Electrical Engineering or related discipline. Specialisation in Heavy Current, Protection Engineering, or Electrical Technology preferred. Minimum 6 years' relevant electrical engineering experience.
Experience within power generation, renewables, EPC, substations, transmission, distribution, or large infrastructure projects. Proven experience in engineering design reviews, construction supervision, commissioning, and project delivery. ECSA Professional Registration (Pr.Eng, Pr.Tech Eng, or Pr.Techni Eng) preferred. Candidates eligible for professional registration will also be considered. Strong understanding of electrical engineering principles and practices.
Knowledge of HV and MV electrical systems. Experience with substation equipment, protection systems, and electrical infrastructure. Exposure to grid connection and compliance requirements. Cost estimation and BOQ preparation experience. Contract administration and project documentation experience. Familiarity with electrical design and simulation software. Advanced MS Office proficiency. Willingness and ability to travel extensively within South Africa, Africa, and internationally as required.
