This is a genuinely varied Veterinary Surgeon position, but with considerably more surgical exposure than you would typically find in a standard GP practice.
The team operates a 4-day working week , with every vet allocated dedicated time for surgery as well as a further day working within the hospital environment, seeing procedures and managing more complex cases. In practical terms, you can expect around half of your working week to involve surgery and hospital-based work , giving you the opportunity to build significant experience across a varied and increasingly advanced caseload.
You'll still enjoy the variety of first-opinion work you'd expect from a GP role, but with the added benefit of working alongside a team handling a broad range of surgical and referral-level cases. There is also a genuine opportunity for someone with an interest in ophthalmology to develop that area of their practice.
The hospital's owner is an experienced orthopaedic clinician with significant ophthalmology experience , providing an excellent opportunity to learn directly from someone with extensive practical knowledge in both areas. Whether you're already confident with surgery or are an experienced GP looking to take the next step, you'll have access to support, mentorship and a caseload that allows you to progress .
The practice is also highly supportive of vets undertaking certificates and further postgraduate qualifications , with funding available to help you develop your chosen area of interest. The hospital You'll be joining an established, RCVS-accredited 24-hour hospital with a large and experienced clinical team. The hospital has invested heavily in its facilities and clinical services, including: CT and MRI Dedicated surgical facilities Orthopaedic and advanced surgical caseload Ophthalmology Emergency and critical care Hydrotherapy and rehabilitation Physiotherapy Advanced diagnostic imaging Gold-standard inpatient care You'll work alongside a multidisciplinary team that includes certificate holders and vets currently undertaking further qualifications across areas including surgery, orthopaedics, medicine, cardiology and exotics.
The nursing team is equally experienced, with Schedule 3-qualified and imaging-trained nurses, alongside dedicated rehabilitation and physiotherapy professionals. What we're looking for We're particularly interested in hearing from: Veterinary Surgeons with a surgical bias or strong interest in surgery Vets with an interest in ophthalmology Experienced GP vets looking to increase their surgical exposure Clinicians keen to develop their skills in orthopaedics and more advanced procedures Vets considering a certificate or other postgraduate qualification You don't need to be a certificate holder or specialist.
