An exciting opportunity has arisen for a highly skilled and experienced Senior Specialist Teacher for Assistive Technology to join Leicestershire's Specialist Teaching Service. This new leadership post within will play a central role in delivering SEND reforms and the Experts at Hand programme, helping schools build capacity and improve outcomes for children and young people with SEND across the 5-19 age range.

We are seeking an innovative teacher with significant experience of SEND and assistive technology to lead the strategic development, implementation and evaluation of assistive technology provision, including relevant ICT and inclusive technology solutions, across Leicestershire. About the Team The Assistive Technology for Education Support Team (ATfEST) is part of Leicestershire's Specialist Teaching Service. The team works collaboratively with colleagues across Hearing Support, Vision Support and Learning, Communication and Autism Teams to promote opportunities, outcomes and experiences for children and young people with SEND. The service supports children and young people from early years through to post-16 education, working in partnership with families, educational settings and professionals through specialist assessment, consultation, training and advice.

About the Role We welcome applications from experienced SEND teachers who wish to take on a strategic leadership role and work alongside team and service managers to shape and develop assistive technology provision across the county. The role has a strong strategic leadership focus whilst retaining service delivery responsibilities, including development and delivery of professional training, providing expert advice at school, cohort and individual levels and oversight of resource management.

Working across the Specialist Teaching Service, you will: Lead the strategic development, quality assurance, and continuous improvement of assistive technology and ICT provision for learners with SEND across Leicestershire, promoting innovative and evidence-informed practice aligned with national developments and research. It provides expert advice to the Local Authority on policy, practice, and resource allocation for assistive and inclusive technology, while leading training and professional learning opportunities to enhance workforce capability.

The role also builds strong partnerships with schools, families, and multi-agency professionals, ensuring that children, young people, and parents/carers contribute to service development and decision-making. In addition, it coordinates and quality assures specialist assistive technology assessments, advice, and interventions, including contributions to statutory processes and reports, and oversees the procurement, management, and evaluation of assistive technology resources and ICT equipment to ensure their effective, equitable, and cost-efficient use across educational settings.

Degree level qualification and Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) with evidence of further professional training and development in SEND and assistive technology or ICT. Substantial experience of working directly with school age children and young people with SEND, including demonstrable expertise in applying assistive technology or ICT to improve learning, communication, independence, access, inclusion and attainment outcomes.
