Specialty Doctor in Haematology

We are pleased to invite applications for a Specialty Doctor in Haematology (1-year fixed-term contract) to join our friendly and dynamic team of Haematologists at Milton Keynes University Hospital. This is an exciting time to join the team, as a new, purpose-built Cancer Centre opened in early 2020 and a brand-new Radiotherapy Centre opened in Spring 2025, providing fantastic facilities for our Haematology and Oncology patients.

Our haematology service is well established and forward-thinking, comprising: 6 consultants, 1 specialty doctor, 3 resident doctors and 6 clinical nurse specialists. The team delivers level 2B care, including administration of bispecific antibody therapy. This is a 1-year fixed-term post. It is suitable for doctors with a specialist interest in haematology or seeking to gain further experience in haematology.

The post is based in Milton Keynes, and the post-holder will rotate with the other middle grades across the ward, Macmillan Day unit, outpatient clinics and laboratory cover.Main duties of the job This post involves daily management of haematology inpatients and referrals from other specialties. The post-holder will also provide cover for the day unit to review and manage patients on chemotherapy who are unwell and perform procedures including bone marrows, intrathecal chemotherapy administration (subject to training and approval) and chemotherapy prescriptions.

The post holder will also participate in haematology clinics which cover a wide spectrum of haematological malignancies and general disorders. You will have the opportunity to be involved in research and attend multi-disciplinary team meetings. We offer support for teaching, education, research and audit, ensuring you can develop professionally within a collaborative environment. You must be a fully registered medical practitioner with the GMC or be eligible to obtain full GMC registration within 3 months (or within 6 months for non-EEA applicants).

You will have a minimum of four years' postgraduate training, with a minimum of 12 months in a relevant specialty., The post holder will participate in haematology clinics which cover a wide spectrum of haematological malignancies and general/ non-malignant disorders. The post holder will also provide cover for the day unit to review and manage patients on chemotherapy who are unwell and perform procedures including bone marrows, intrathecal chemotherapy administration (subject to training and approval) and chemotherapy prescriptions.

There will be an opportunity for involvement in research and audit and time available for laboratory training depending on the individual needs.

Medical degree MRCP or equivalent medical qualification Applicants must hold full GMC registration, Broad experience in General Medicine to provide effective and safe management of outpatients and inpatients IT and computer skills Ability to work constructively in a team environment, Applicants' knowledge is up to date and fit to practise safely Knowledge of evidence based practice, Good written and verbal communication skills Evidence of ability to communicate with patients, colleagues and staff at all levels Clinical skills, Experience in the management of patients within the medical division Understanding of clinical risk management., Ability to perform bone marrow aspirates and trephine biopsies., Meets professional health requirements (in line with GMC standards in Good Medical Practice) Demonstration of immunisation against HepB, plus proof of Hbf Ag negative status., Learning and personal development demonstrates interest in the speciality required for the job Demonstrates a commitment to maintaining professional skills and knowledge relevant to the job.
