Summary of Role:GlobalFoundries' Fab 9 is seeking a Sr. Technician for Microelectronics Failure Analysis to join our advanced analytical laboratory in Essex Junction, Vermont. This hands-on role supports high-volume semiconductor manufacturing, yield learning, and root-cause analysis through physical failure analysis techniques, including Secondary Ion Mass Spectrometry (SIM).
This position is ideal for candidates with a strong technical foundation and interest in thin film analysis. While prior Thin film analysis experience is preferred, motivated candidates with related technical backgrounds will receive training and development to build expertise in advanced analytical methods. Technicians in this role will work closely with experienced engineers and senior lab staff to develop analytical skills and contribute to impactful investigations supporting Fab 9 operations.Essential Responsibilities:Perform SIM analysis to support yield, reliability, and manufacturing investigations Follow established procedures and contribute to continuous improvement of lab practices Prepare samples for analysis using techniques such as mechanical cleaving.Assist in selecting and optimizing tool conditions to capture high-quality data Analyze and document results with guidance from engineers and other senior technicians Collaborate with failure analysis engineers to support investigation strategies and sample preparation approaches Support tool maintenance activities and ensure safe operation of laboratory equipment Participate in training programs to develop deeper expertise in SIMs operation, interpretation, and advanced techniques Contribute to a strong safety, quality, and teamwork culture within the lab Other Responsibilities:Perform all activities in a safe and responsible manner and support all Environmental, Health, Safety & Security requirements and programsOther duties as assigned by manager / supervisorRequired QualificationsEducation: Associate's degree (2-year technical degree) in Engineering, Physics, Materials Science, Electronics, Semiconductor Manufacturing, Math, or a related discipline OR equivalent military technical training Experience: 2-4 years' relevant technical laboratory or manufacturing experience Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail Ability to learn new technical concepts and operate complex equipment Demonstrated effective communication skills (written and verbal) Fluency in English language (both written and verbal)Familiarity with sample preparation techniques (e.g., cleaving, polishing, chemical etching) Exposure to failure analysis, materials characterization, or process troubleshooting Experience with data documentation and reporting in technical environments Preferred QualificationsEducation: Bachelors degree (4-year degree) in Engineering, Physics, Materials Science, Electronics, Semiconductor Manufacturing, Math, or a related disciplineExperience with SIMs tools or other thin film analytical techniques Experience working in a semiconductor fab, cleanroom, or technical laboratory environment Expected Salary Range$43,100.00 - $83,200.00The exact Salary will be determined based on qualifications, experience and location.The role you are applying for may require you to obtain a US Department of Defense Security Clearance at some time during your employment.
