Starke Ayres, Africa's foremost specialist and globally recognised supplier of premium vegetable, flower, and lawn seed varieties, is seeking a competent and experienced Tractor Driver to join their agricultural operations team in Kempton Park, Gauteng . This full-time position offers the opportunity to contribute to the cultivation and harvesting processes that underpin one of the continent's most respected seed production and supply companies.

Whether supporting commercial farming or home garden seed lines, this role is central to maintaining the high standards of field preparation and crop management that Starke Ayres is known for across Africa and beyond. Key Responsibilities Operate tractors and a range of farm implements safely, efficiently, and in compliance with all relevant health and safety standards. Carry out routine maintenance, servicing, and minor repairs on tractors and attached equipment, including graders, rollers, plows, and sprayers, ensuring all machinery remains in optimal working condition.

Conduct regular pre-operation and post-operation inspections of tractors and attachments, checking fluid levels, lubrication, tyre pressure, and general mechanical integrity. Use tractors to transport agricultural materials across the farm, as well as to pull, push, or position heavy farming equipment as required by operational demands. Prepare fields for planting seasons by ploughing, grading, and conditioning soil to achieve the correct tilth and seedbed conditions.

Assist with the harvesting of vegetables, either by hand or through the operation of mechanical harvesting equipment, ensuring minimal crop damage and efficient throughput. Apply pesticides, herbicides, and fertilizers to crops and field perimeters in accordance with prescribed schedules and safety protocols, including roadside spraying to manage weed encroachment. Monitor crop progress and communicate relevant updates, observations, and concerns to the Farm Manager to support informed decision-making and timely interventions.

Requirements & Qualifications Grade 12 National Senior Certificate (Matric) or equivalent qualification. Proven experience operating tractors and a variety of farm implements in a professional agricultural environment. Solid working knowledge of heavy farming equipment, including its operation, care, and typical maintenance requirements. Demonstrated experience performing maintenance and basic repairs on tractors and other farming machinery.

Ability to identify mechanical faults early and take appropriate preventative action to avoid equipment downtime. Familiarity with pesticide, herbicide, and fertilizer application procedures, including relevant safety precautions and handling requirements. Physical fitness and the ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions for extended periods. A responsible, safety-conscious attitude with a commitment to following operational procedures and farm regulations.
