Search #: 499768 Work type: Full-time Location: UConn Storrs Categories: Information Technology JOB SUMMARY Institutional Insights & Innovation (i3) is seeking an experienced Web Application Developer (Software Developer 2) to help design, build, deploy, and support a growing portfolio of institutional applications and digital platforms. This position is ideal for a versatile, experienced developer who enjoys working across the full lifecycle of a software product: understanding a problem, designing a solution, writing application code, integrating systems and data, deploying applications, troubleshooting production environments, and continually improving the systems they support.
The Web Application Developer will work closely with developers, designers, product and project staff, student contributors, and partners across the University. The successful candidate will contribute directly to major institutional initiatives while also helping strengthen the technical practices and infrastructure that allow i3 to develop and operate software reliably at scale. The role requires strong application development skills as well as the ability to work comfortably across the broader technical environment surrounding modern web applications.
This may include Linux application environments, web servers, databases, authentication systems, APIs, deployment workflows, background processes, logging, monitoring, and other components necessary to move software successfully from development into production. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Design, develop, test, deploy, maintain, and enhance production of web applications and institutional software platforms.
Develop server-side applications using modern web application frameworks, with an emphasis on maintainable, secure, and well-structured software. Work collaboratively with designers, developers, product and project staff, and university stakeholders to translate institutional needs into effective technical solutions. Develop and maintain integrations with institutional data sources, APIs, authentication systems, third-party services, and other enterprise technologies.
Design and work with relational databases, data models, queries, and application-level data integrations. Support the deployment and operation of web applications in Linux-based server environments. Troubleshoot complex technical issues across application code, web servers, databases, operating systems, integrations, authentication services, and related infrastructure. Contribute to the development and improvement of deployment processes, automation, CI/CD workflows, logging, monitoring, and other DevOps practices.
Help ensure applications meet appropriate standards for security, performance, reliability, usability, and accessibility. Participate in architectural and technical design decisions for new and existing applications. Conduct code reviews and contribute to shared software development standards and technical best practices. Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior developers and student developers.
Create and maintain appropriate technical documentation to support application development, deployment, maintenance, and operational continuity. Collaborate with University technology partners on infrastructure, networking, identity and access management, security, hosting, and related technical needs. Evaluate emerging technologies and development approaches that may improve i3's ability to deliver effective institutional solutions.
Perform other related duties in support of i3's evolving portfolio of digital initiatives.
