The Opportunity McElhanney Ltd. is seeking a Junior Utility Locate Technician to join our Red Deer, Alberta team. In this role, you will be responsible for identifying and labeling underground public and private utilities. This role is designated as a safety sensitive position.  What You’ll Be Doing Locating both public and private properties to detect, identify, mark, label, and map underground utilities, including utility mains and other subsurface services in response to Alberta one calls.

Examine previous mapping and essential project information, research utility history, and document irregularities or separation requirements. Utilize line locating and related field equipment. Use provided computer equipment for digital mapping, sketches, and field documentation. Communicate professionally with client liaisons, landowners, office personnel, and field staff throughout various projects.

Contribute to a positive work environment, provide guidance to field staff where appropriate, and complete other tasks and duties as required. What You’ll Bring 1-2 years of related experience as an Underground Utility Locator. Knowledge of underground utility construction methods, survey practices, CAD software, GPS, GIS, and/or experience in the oilfield industry is considered an asset.

Strong problem-solving, troubleshooting, organizational, and communication skills. A strong commitment to safety performance and the ability to meet company Drug and Alcohol Policy requirements. Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions, travel throughout Alberta, B.C., and Saskatchewan as required, adapt to varied work schedules, and walk long distances on uneven terrain while periodically carrying up to 50 lbs.

Valid Alberta Driver’s License and a clean 3-year driver’s abstract to use company vehicles. What Can We Offer You? The hourly range for this position is $23 to $28 per hour. McElhanney offers fair compensation that is commensurate with the individual’s education, experience, skills, and professional qualifications. The posted base salary/wage range is representative of the required level of qualifications and experience for the position as noted in the job posting.
