About the role The Cloud Engineer is a pivotal role responsible for managing and optimizing core infrastructure and services that empower all engineering teams across the organization.
This role focuses on cost control, ensuring security, and driving automation to enhance operational efficiency and scalability. The Cloud Engineer builds and maintains cloud hygiene practices, provides visibility into infrastructure costs, and oversees SaaS product permissions, contracts, costs, and licenses. By fostering best practices in automation and resource management, the role ensures the stability, security, and cost-effectiveness of the organization’s foundational systems, enabling seamless delivery of business objectives.
This role includes on-call shifts What will you be doing? Contributing to the design, build and operational management of a highly scalable, secure and available infrastructure operating 24x7 Ensuring that Auctane infrastructure platforms are secure and can scale to support rapid growth in transaction volumes during periods of peak business. Limit or eliminate exposure to single points of failure Designing and building infrastructure platforms with the highest levels of security. Respond swiftly to new and emerging security threats and vulnerabilities Creating tools and automated workflow capabilities to enable our software engineers to test and promote code across the different environments with maximum velocity Collaborating with software engineering teams throughout the software development lifecycle and promoting an operational mindset, to ensure the ongoing success Constantly improving the platform by introducing new technologies where appropriate, driving efficiency and reducing technical debt Work with engineering teams on solution design, capacity planning and performance Promote and implement systems infrastructure and operational best practices Championing cloud native design and ensuring our cloud environment is highly available, resilient and cost efficient. Provide out of hours support either as part of scheduled rota or critical project delivery Ensure data stores are handing data according to our policies.
What are we looking for? BS or MS in Computer Science, Management of Information Systems, Information Security/Assurance, Internal Audit, or equivalent years’ experience. Hands on experience with AWS in a production environment Demonstrated experience and thorough understanding of the pillars of Cloud Engineering (Operational Excellence, Security, Reliability, Performance Efficiency, Cost optimization, Observability) and a willingness to apply, discuss, and improve understanding and context of those ideas Experience with a wide variety of services in AWS in production Experience with containerisation and orchestration Hands on Linux and Windows skills; coupled with a great understanding of DevOps principles Scripting skills: preferably Bash/Python Experience with Terraform and configuration management tools -- A passion for immutable infrastructure as code Focused operational mindset and passion for observability Comfortable working with multiple teams and balancing their needs Verbal and written communication ski
