Overview This role is responsible for supporting safe and efficient patient mobility while ensuring the highest standards of patient care and safety. The individual must be proficient in a variety of patient lifting, transfer, positioning, and transportation techniques, with the ability to assess each patient's needs and determine the safest and most appropriate transfer method.
Responsibilities include maintaining patient safety during all movement activities, adhering to infection prevention protocols, and demonstrating knowledge of CPR, equipment management, customer service, and applicable organizational policies and procedures. Additionally, this role collaborates closely with the healthcare team by conducting purposeful rounding on assigned units and responding to patient and staff needs in accordance with established response criteria.
Responsibilities Safely transport patients throughout the hospital using appropriate safety equipment and established transfer protocols. This includes assisting patients via wheelchair, stretcher, transport vehicles, and accompanying ambulatory patients as needed. Demonstrate expertise in patient lifting, mobility, and transfer techniques, utilizing available safe patient handling equipment and collaborating with the appropriate number of team members to ensure safe patient movement.
Promote and maintain patient safety during all transport and mobility activities by properly utilizing safety devices and equipment, including gait belts, wheelchair and stretcher brakes, lifting devices, and other approved patient handling tools. Maintain continuous communication and availability through departmental communication systems, including walkie-talkies, phones, and capacity management platforms.
Respond promptly to all patient transport and safe lift requests, meeting established response-time expectations. Receive, prioritize, and coordinate patient transport requests and departmental support needs to ensure timely and efficient service delivery. Accurately document safe lift technician activities and submit required logs and reports at the conclusion of each shift. Communicate patient concerns, safety issues, and operational challenges promptly and appropriately to Charge Nurses, Nurse Supervisors, Nurse Managers, or other designated leaders.
Clean, disinfect, and maintain stretchers, wheelchairs, and related transport equipment following each patient use. Utilize designated cleaning indicators and ensure adequate stock levels of cleaning supplies are maintained. Assist with patient care activities, including positioning, turning, lifting, ambulation, and movement during complex procedures, dressing changes, and other clinical interventions as directed by the healthcare team.
Provide accurate and comprehensive handoff communication to incoming team members to support continuity of care and operational efficiency. Collaborate with the healthcare team to conduct purposeful hourly rounding and respond to patient needs in accordance with established protocols. Demonstrate initiative by seeking opportunities to assist with additional departmental responsibilities and special assignments as directed by Nursing Leadership, Nurse Managers, or Nursing Supervisors.
Perform other duties as assigned in support of patient care, safety, and departmental operations. Qualifications Patient care experience preferred. Demonstrated ability to safely and frequently lift more than 50 pounds and push or pull in excess of 200 pounds. Must be able to meet the position's physical demands without restrictions. Strong interpersonal, communication, and customer service skills, with the ability to interact effectively with patients, visitors, and healthcare team members.
Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
