Data Science Undergraduate Internship We’re developing the next generation of Colleagues! Join the data-driven culture at Citizens and learn how we keep customers at the center of everything we do. We are looking for interns to join our 10-week summer internship program and support innovative data & analytics initiatives across the bank. Experience during the program Our program offers interns a unique dual experience – Participants spend half of their time individually partnered with a host team within the data & analytics community to participate in ongoing work.
Assignments for data science interns may be in areas aligned to statistical modeling, machine learning, natural language processing, computer vision, artificial intelligence, advanced analytics, and other areas . This component of the program provides direct exposure to teams in areas that align to intern education and interests. The other half of the time, interns work on a cross-functional team, collaborating with other Data & Analytics interns, colleagues, and business partners to work on a real-world project.
Projects are tailored so interns can experience the full project cycle. Past projects centered on areas such as enhancing the customer experience, optimizing business spend, identifying new market opportunities, providing business insights , model development, and engineering metrics & dashboarding. Interns are expected to adopt a hybrid work structure and work out of one of our headquarters in Columbus, OH, Johnston, RI, or Boston, MA Please note: This role spans multiple teams and business areas.
As such, specific responsibilities and tools may vary depending on the host team. Interns will be matched with teams to ensure meaningful contributions and strong collaboration. As a Data Science Intern, you will have the opportunity to: Collaborate with business partners and mentors to understand project goals, business needs, and available data sources. Participate in the data preparation process, including attribute selection, exploratory data analysis (EDA), data transformation, and working with temporal data structures.
Analyze both structured and unstructured data to uncover trends, patterns, and actionable insights. Apply statistical techniques such as hypothesis testing, model development, and validation to align solutions with business objectives. Conduct hands-on analysis using text mining, quantitative methods, and operational data techniques. Incorporate feedback from stakeholders to iteratively refine models and approaches for maximum business impact.
Present your findings and recommendations to peers and business leaders as part of a capstone presentation. What you’ll need to apply Basic Qualifications: Successfully complete a video interview assessment within 4 days of receiving the link. If not completed within the timeframe, your application will be automatically withdrawn from consideration Currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Statistics, Data Science, Mathematics, Economics, Analytics, Computer Science, or other data & analytic-related degree Expected graduation date between December 2027 and Spring 2028 Minimum GPA of 3.0 Education in statistical theory for the purpose of creating robust and sound statistical models and analytic outputs Experience working with raw as well as prepared datasets with the ability to effectively clean and process data Proficiency with statistical or machine learning programming languages / tools: SQL, Python, Pandas, Jupyter Notebooks, and experience with cloud computing environments (e.g., AWS, Azure, or GCP) Strong attention to detail, with the ability to work independently and manage time effectively in a fast-paced environment Demonstrates appreciation for the varied backgrounds, experiences, and viewpoints of others.
