Description Job Title: Caregiver Department: Assisted Living Reports to: Director of Assisted Living FLSA Status: Non-Exempt Position Summary: In keeping with our organization’s goal of improving the lives of the Residents we serve; the Caregiver plays a critical role in providing superior customer service and care to all Residents. The Caregiver safeguards the health, safety, and welfare of all Residents under their care by following applicable laws, regulations, and established policies and procedures.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities: Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. Provide compassionate, respectful, and person-centered care. Observe and report changes in a resident's physical, mental, or emotional condition. Assist guests with activities of daily living including bathing, hair care, mouth care, nail care and dressing, etc.

Assists guests with ambulation. Assists and encourages residents to eat and take sufficient fluids and snacks. Assists residents with turning/repositioning, toileting and personal hygiene (Includes monitoring of bowel and bladder incontinence in conjunction with the care plan. Observes and reports resident’s behavior, condition changes including weight change and signs of injury or neglect. Participates in or leads leisure activities as planned by Activities Coordinator.

Assists and reminds residents to participate in facility activities. Performs general housekeeping/laundry tasks including cleaning of rooms, restrooms and related duties as assigned. Communicates with families and participates in facility or community activities. Assists to ensure a safe environment for residents, families, and co-workers. Maintain quality measures being assessed at facility, adhering to, and making suggestions for improvement.

Participates in data collection and performance improvement reporting processes assigned. Maintains ethical standards. Adheres to all policies of the facility, including resident rights. Displays a caring, respectful attitude when addressing residents, family members, and co-workers. Ensures confidentiality of resident health information in accordance with HIPAA. Reports any incident or accident to supervisor immediately, completing follow up tasks per company policy.

Reports any employee injury to supervisor immediately, following company policy and procedures for employee injury. Completes daily documentation as required and directed Passes medication as directed by administrator or licensee designee as needed. Communicates and interacts effectively and tactfully with Residents, visitors, families, peers and supervisors. Reports all hazardous conditions, damaged equipment and supply issues to the supervisor.

Communicates and interacts effectively and tactfully with Residents, visitors, families, peers and supervisors. Attend staff meetings and in-services as requested. Attends in-service and education programs and attends continuing education required for maintenance of professional certification or licensure. Answers and respond to call lights promptly and courteously when working in resident care areas Reports all resident concerns to the appropriate department head.

Perform job duties while operating in compliance with federal and state laws/regulations, and facility policies and procedures. Regular and reliable attendance. Perform other tasks as required. Ability to work with residents who may have cognitive, behavioral, or physical impairments. Ability to work in potentially stressful or emergency situations. Supervisory Responsibility: This position does not have direct supervisory responsibilities.
