Description TPI has an exciting opportunity for an experienced Human Resources & Payroll Specialist. This is a full-time on-site position in Des Moines, IA, reporting to the Human Resources Manager. Candidates with experience processing multistate payroll and experience using Paylocity receive special consideration. Position Summary: This position is primarily responsible for accurately processing payroll and maintaining payroll-related records, with a strong focus on using Paylocity to support payroll administration, employee data, reporting, and compliance.
The position also assists with other HR related functions, including benefits administration, FMLA and leave coordination, safety programs, onboarding, employee communications, and general HR compliance. The ideal candidate: Will be detail-oriented, dependable, and able to manage recurring payroll deadlines while balancing other HR responsibilities in a fast-paced environment. Is comfortable working with confidential information, resolving payroll-related questions, and communicating clearly with employees and managers.
Can support employees across multiple states, including helping them to understand payroll, benefits, leave, and HR processes. Essential Functions Process biweekly payroll, including reviewing timecards, overtime, deductions, tax updates, direct deposit changes, 401(k) deferrals/loans, and other payroll-related changes. Maintain employee payroll records, process payroll changes, generate reports, and support accurate payroll administration.
Review payroll and timekeeping information for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with company policies and applicable wage and hour requirements. Support employees and managers with payroll-related questions, including paychecks, deductions, direct deposit, tax withholding, timekeeping, and paid time off balances. Assist with payroll-related reporting, audits, reconciliations, and recordkeeping.
Support new hire and termination processes, including payroll setup, employee data entry, final pay processing, and related documentation. Assist with benefits administration, including employee eligibility, enrollment support, employee questions, and annual open enrollment. Assist with FMLA, leave of absence, accommodation, and return-to-work processes, including tracking documentation, communicating with employees, and maintaining related records.
Provide support regarding HR policies, practices, procedures, and employee questions. Support departmental and company-wide safety programs, safety training, incident documentation, OSHA-related recordkeeping, and disaster response planning. Maintain departmental files, including employee, payroll, benefits, I-9, applicant, job description, safety, leave, and compliance records. Assist with onboarding activities, including new hire paperwork, background screening, drug screen coordination, and new hire orientation support.
Support recruiting and hiring activities as needed, including posting job openings, reviewing applicants, coordinating interviews, and communicating with candidates. Assist with employee communications, employee recognition programs, training initiatives, and HR projects. Help maintain the employee handbook and support updates to company policies and procedures. Ensure compliance with applicable federal, state, and local employment, payroll, leave, and recordkeeping requirements.
Requirements BA/BS degree required in Human Resources, Business, or related field. Minimum 3 years of multi-state payroll processing, human resources administration or related experience. Experience using Paylocity strongly preferred. Strong understanding of payroll processes, wage deductions, tax withholding, direct deposit, timekeeping, and payroll recordkeeping. Working knowledge of federal and state payroll, wage and hour, leave, and employment compliance requirements.
