Risk Officer
Description Green Belt Bank & Trust JOB DESCRIPTION Position Title: Risk Officer Reports To: Chief Financial Officer (CFO) Direct Reports: None Classification: Exempt Reviewed: 2026 Scope: The Risk Officer is responsible for overseeing the Bank’s risk and internal audit functions. This role ensures the Bank complies with all applicable regulatory requirements and maintains a strong internal control environment.
The position works closely with leadership, regulators, and external auditors to identify, assess, monitor, and mitigate risks across the organization. Accountabilities: The Risk Officer will: Facilitate and perform periodic risk and audit review assessments across all departments including, but not limited to: Surprise cash counts Ag/commercial file reviews (completeness of documentation) Retail file reviews (completeness of documentation) Maintaining and updating control matrixes and control understandings Maintain and track policy changes and updates.
Vendor Management: Perform due diligence on potential and current vendors. Maintain all due diligence information and track contract renewal terms. Risk rate vendors, reviewing critical vendors annually and retrieving new due diligence information. Perform contract review for bank vendors including staff assistance. Work with internal auditors to execute the annual internal audit plan based on risk assessment results.
Work with the ISO to coordinate annual BCP and Disaster recovery training with our 3rd party vendor and applicable staff. Perform operational, financial, compliance, and IT audits across all areas of the Bank. Evaluate the adequacy and effectiveness of internal controls. Issue audit reports with clear findings, risk ratings, and management recommendations. Function as a liaison and coordinator for internal and external audits with third parties (auditors, examiners, and regulators) for timing of audit procedures and documentation.
Track audit findings, progress of corrective action and complete independent re-audits as deemed necessary. Provide regular reporting to senior leadership, Audit Committee, and/or Board of Directors. Maintain documentation and audit trails consistent with regulatory expectations. Provide assistance with risk control assessments for IT and Compliance. Field requests for report generation. Ensure compliance with applicable banking regulations.
Stay current with regulatory changes and emerging risks affecting community banks. Support development and maintenance of policies and procedures related to risk and audit functions. Promote a culture of compliance and risk awareness throughout the Bank., Represent the bank professionally and enthusiastically in civic organizations within the community. Participate and honorably represent GBB&T in sponsored and volunteer opportunities.
Perform other duties as requested or assigned. Requirements Qualifications: Education: A-4-year degree or greater in business, finance, or a related field of study. Additional bank specific schooling recommended. Experience: 7+ years banking/management experience Experience should reflect financial acumen risk management, internal audit, or regulatory compliance.
