Scrap Coordinator / Inspector

Description Perform repetitive inspection of steel scrap to validate its content (mix) in accordance with purchase orders. Coordinate the transfer and staging for scrap railcars and trucks to use in the melting process in accordance with melting specifications. Visually inspect and check all carriers coming in with purchased metal scrap to document physical content in accordance with purchase order specifications, instructions, and established procedures.

Periodically working shiftwork to assist in the oversight of the operations crew to insure efficient operations. Primary Duties and Responsibilities: Receive direction from Scrap Yard Supervisor. Work from job instructions, company standards, and specifications. Visually inspect and check all scrap coming in from vendors and report all discrepancies with purchase orders. Monitor the existing scrap mix to ensure that changes are in conformance to melting specifications.

Select and identify metals not in conformance to required heat charge specifications and handle according to company procedures. Monitor scrap inventory and report shortages. Maintain inventory records of incoming scrap stored in railcars by carrier, railcar number, scrap type, date received, and date emptied. Coordinate and stage scrap trucks by material type for transfer into the melting process.

Monitor the charging and melting of steel to determine improper loading of charge buckets and coordinate corrective actions with Scrap and Charge Crane operators. Remove debris from rail tracks and inspect tracks for needed repairs. Assist in handling radiation events that may occur at the truck scale, rail scale, or melt shop. Requirements The incumbent should have 2-3 years of working experience in industrial setting or warehouse, inventory control, knowledge of railroad engines and car movements in and outside the plant.
