Actively Interviewing for Animal Care Technician to join research organization in Birmingham, AL! Job Description As an Animal Care Technician, you will be responsible for observing and executing activities consistent with study protocols, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), Good Laboratory Practices (GLP) regulations, and safety and health practices. You will demonstrate knowledge of basic study design and execution while administering test and control materials through various routes.

Responsibilities Execute key activities on a study following appropriate procedures. Administer test and control materials by gavage, intravenous, intramuscular, intraperitoneal, and subcutaneous routes. Collect samples and specimens. Provide animal care and husbandry, including changing racks, and providing feed and water. Clean cages, equipment, and work area and decontaminate animal rooms using sanitizing and sterilizing equipment.

Gather experimental data, including temperatures, weights, clinical observations, and husbandry data. Handle and restrain animals of various species under animal biosafety levels 1, 2, and/or 3 containment procedures. Gather in-life and husbandry data for various study types, including body weights, clinical observations, and food consumption. Communicate with and update supervisor, group leads, and co-workers as needed.

Record data in the data collection system. Observe, record, and report abnormal findings to the veterinarian. Review in-life and husbandry data, as required. Complete other duties as required. Essential Skills 0-3 years of animal handling experience in a laboratory setting. Ability to observe appropriate safety and study requirements by reading, understanding, and following Standard Operating Procedures, Good Laboratory Practices requirements, and study protocols.

Ability to communicate effectively with stakeholders at all levels of the organization. Ability to utilize relevant MS Office Suite Products. Ability to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) including an N95 respirator or PAPR for extended periods. Ability to work well in a team environment. Ability to work overtime when necessary and rotating weekends and holidays. Demonstrated knowledge and application of standard scientific principles, theories, and concepts.

Demonstrated ability to learn new tasks. Additional Skills & Qualifications Associate’s degree or equivalent. Work Environment This role is based in an ABSL-2/ABSL-3 facility, working in a laboratory setting. The position requires the ability to meet all entry requirements for work in both environments, including wearing personal protective equipment and adhering to safety protocols. The role may require working overtime, rotating weekends, and holidays.

Job Type & Location This is a Contract position based out of Birmingham, AL. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $20.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
