Job Title: Chemistry Laboratory Technician (Contract) Job Description This contract Chemistry Laboratory Technician role supports a quality control laboratory in an oil and gas environment by performing routine testing and analysis of gasoline, diesel, renewable fuels, and related petroleum products. The technician ensures that products meet established specifications by conducting physical and chemical analyses, maintaining laboratory instruments, documenting results, and following established procedures and regulatory requirements.

This position is ideal for someone with laboratory experience in wet chemistry or related disciplines who enjoys hands-on testing, detailed documentation, and contributing to product quality and safety. Responsibilities Perform routine laboratory testing on gasoline, diesel, renewable fuels, and related petroleum products in a quality control laboratory setting. Conduct physical and chemical analyses using wet chemistry techniques in accordance with ASTM and internal company test methods.

Prepare samples accurately, label them properly, and ensure chain-of-custody and traceability for all tested materials. Maintain complete, accurate, and timely testing records in laboratory notebooks, electronic systems, and laboratory information systems. Review test data carefully, validate results, and report findings promptly to support operational and quality control decisions. Calibrate laboratory instruments regularly to ensure accuracy and reliability of test results, following established calibration procedures.

Troubleshoot basic instrument issues and coordinate maintenance or repair needs to minimize downtime. Follow all laboratory safety procedures, including proper handling of chemicals, use of personal protective equipment, and adherence to environmental regulations. Assist with investigations of off-specification product results by re-testing samples, verifying methods, and documenting findings. Maintain cleanliness, organization, and good housekeeping practices in all laboratory work areas to support safe and efficient operations.

Support quality assurance and compliance activities by following documented procedures, participating in audits as needed, and helping implement corrective actions. Collaborate with team members and work independently as required to meet testing schedules and operational timelines. Work the required contract schedule, including potential overtime and occasional weekend work based on operational needs.

Essential Skills Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry, Biology, Laboratory Science, or a related field is preferred. Previous laboratory experience in chemistry, biology, or general laboratory testing is preferred. Hands-on experience with wet chemistry techniques and routine laboratory testing. Knowledge of laboratory safety practices, including safe handling of chemicals and use of protective equipment.

Familiarity with ASTM test methods for petroleum products is a plus. Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications for data entry, reporting, and documentation. Experience using laboratory information systems or electronic data management tools. Strong attention to detail and accuracy in testing, documentation, and data review. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while meeting deadlines and quality standards.

Ability to lift up to 40 pounds as part of routine laboratory and sample handling activities. Ability to stand for extended periods while performing testing and laboratory tasks. Ability to work in both laboratory and industrial environments safely and effectively. Additional Skills & Qualifications Background in oil and gas, petroleum products testing, or industrial laboratory work is beneficial.

Experience with physical property testing of fuels and related petroleum products is an advantage. Strong organizational skills to manage multiple tests, samples, and documentation requirements. Effective communication skills to report results clearly
