Job Title: Civil Designer – Professional Engineer (PE) Job Description This role seeks a licensed Professional Engineer with strong land development and site design experience to lead and support commercial, residential, municipal, and mixed-use projects across Minnesota. You will take projects from initial concept through construction, overseeing site design, grading, drainage, utility layouts, permitting, and client coordination.

You will provide technical leadership, ensure high-quality deliverables, and play a key role in mentoring and developing junior engineering staff. Responsibilities Prepare and oversee comprehensive site development plans, including grading plans, drainage systems, utility layouts, erosion control plans, and related civil design documents. Design residential, commercial, municipal, and mixed-use land development projects, ensuring functional, cost-effective, and compliant site layouts.

Utilize AutoCAD Civil 3D to perform modeling, drafting, and plan production for land development and site design projects. Coordinate closely with municipalities, developers, architects, contractors, and internal project teams to align design solutions with project goals and regulatory requirements. Prepare permitting and entitlement packages, including supporting documentation and exhibits required by reviewing agencies.

Conduct site visits to evaluate existing conditions, support construction administration, and provide engineering guidance during construction. Review civil engineering plans and documents for quality control, accuracy, and compliance with local regulations, standards, and best practices. Provide QA/QC oversight on all civil engineering deliverables to ensure consistency, reliability, and technical excellence.

Act as a technical resource for project teams, offering guidance on grading, drainage, utilities, stormwater management, and construction documentation. Mentor and develop EITs, designers, and junior engineering staff, helping guide them through engineering processes, training, and professional growth. Drive consistency and quality across multiple design groups by promoting standard practices, templates, and design approaches.

Manage project schedules and budgets, tracking progress and resources to meet deadlines and financial targets. Lead client communications, serving as a primary point of contact and providing clear updates, technical explanations, and responsive service. Support construction documentation and administration, including responding to contractor inquiries and reviewing field changes as needed. Essential Skills Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering.

Active Minnesota Professional Engineer (PE) license or the ability to obtain licensure through reciprocity. At least 5 years of land development and site design experience. Strong proficiency with AutoCAD Civil 3D for modeling and plan production. Demonstrated experience in grading and drainage design for land development projects. Hands-on experience with stormwater management design and analysis.

Experience designing site utilities, including water, sanitary sewer, and storm sewer systems. Background in permitting and agency coordination for land development projects. Experience preparing construction documentation, including plans, details, and specifications. Strong communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with clients, agencies, and multidisciplinary project teams.

Proven project management skills, including scheduling, budgeting, and resource coordination. Ability to provide QA/QC oversight on civil engineering deliverables and review designs for accuracy before plans leave the office. Capability to act as a technical resource for project teams and support complex design decisions. Experience mentoring and developing engineers and designers.
