Civil Skilled Laborer Job Description This position supports pipe layers on civil construction projects focused on installing, repairing, and maintaining underground piping systems for water, sewer, and drainage infrastructure. You will work on active construction sites performing physically demanding tasks that require accuracy, safe work practices, and strong teamwork. Responsibilities Install underground piping systems, including storm, sanitary, and water mains, in accordance with project specifications and grade requirements.

Read and interpret blueprints, site plans, and grade stakes to ensure accurate installation of underground utilities. Align and position pipes to the required depth and grade using lasers or transit levels. Perform trench preparation activities, including measuring, grading, and compacting to specified standards. Connect pipe components such as PVC, concrete, HDPE, and ductile iron using appropriate methods and tools.

Assist with excavation, backfilling, and compaction processes to support safe and efficient pipe installation. Ensure proper bedding, anchoring, and sealing of pipe systems to maintain integrity and performance. Inspect pipes and connections for defects and verify compliance with quality and project standards. Maintain tools and equipment in safe, clean, and reliable working condition. Follow all company safety policies, procedures, and site regulations at all times.

Work collaboratively with equipment operators, laborers, and foremen to complete tasks efficiently and safely. Essential Skills Minimum 2+ years of civil construction labor experience. Experience installing underground utilities, including water, sewer, or drainage systems. Ability to read and interpret blueprints, site plans, and grade stakes. Ability to use lasers or transit levels to set grades and align pipes.

Strong understanding of trench preparation, grading, and compaction practices. Capability to connect various pipe materials such as PVC, concrete, HDPE, and ductile iron. Valid driver’s license. Physical ability to perform heavy manual labor, including frequent lifting of materials up to 50 lbs or more. Commitment to following safety policies and procedures on active construction sites. Ability to work effectively in a team environment with operators, laborers, and foremen.

Additional Skills & Qualifications Additional experience with underground utilities for water, sewer, and drainage systems is an asset. Interest in or openness to safety training such as fall protection, confined space, and WHMIS. Strong attention to detail and quality standards in civil construction work. Work Environment This role is based in the Lower Mainland with work primarily in areas such as Horseshoe Bay through to Langley and the Vancouver region. You will work Monday to Friday for a minimum of 8 hours per day, typically on a day shift from 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., with a 30-minute paid break. The position is fully outdoors on active construction sites in varying weather conditions and involves frequent lifting of heavy materials (up to 50 lbs or more).

Project needs may require occasional overtime, weekend work, and early morning starts. You will work around civil construction equipment and tools in a field-based environment, following site safety rules and appropriate construction attire requirements.
