Job Title: CNC Programmer / CNC Machinist Job Description This role combines hands-on CNC machining with programming responsibilities on vertical mills. You will operate numerically controlled machine tools, program and run CNC 3-axis vertical mills, and perform complex machining operations to tight tolerances and high-quality finish specifications. The position requires strong knowledge of CNC programming, machine setup and operation, quality checks, and the ability to interpret part designs and work with CAD and CAM software.
Responsibilities Operate numerically controlled machine tools to produce precision components to close and exacting tolerance and finish specifications. Perform complex series of progressive machining operations on a diverse range of workpieces, ensuring consistent quality and accuracy. Program CNC 3-axis vertical mills, including creating, editing, and optimizing programs using CAM software. Set up and operate CNC vertical mills, including tooling selection, fixture setup, and machine preparation.
Run quality checks on machined parts and verify conformance to specifications using appropriate measuring tools and inspection methods. Make machine offsets and program edits as necessary, including tool changes and adjustments to G&M codes, to maintain part accuracy and quality. Read and interpret blueprints, part drawings, and design specifications to plan machining operations and ensure correct execution.
Apply functional familiarity with CAD to work with part designs and support programming and machining activities. Run more than one CNC unit simultaneously when required, maintaining productivity and quality across multiple machines. Collaborate with team members in mold build and production shops to support tooling, mold, and component machining needs. Maintain a strong focus on quality in all machining and programming tasks, ensuring that parts meet or exceed internal and customer standards.
Essential Skills High School Diploma. Minimum of 3 years of direct, hands-on experience with CNC mills. At least 3 years of experience performing tool changes, editing G&M codes, and making machine offsets. At least 3 years of blueprint reading experience, with the ability to interpret detailed part designs and specifications. Proficiency in programming with WorkNC CAM or RTM/Lemoine CAM software.
Ability to program CNC 3-axis vertical mills and translate part designs into efficient machining programs. Strong understanding of Fanuc controls and G&M codes. Demonstrated commitment to quality, with the ability to perform thorough quality checks and verify conformance to specifications. Functional familiarity with CAD software to support part design interpretation and programming. Capability to work with molds, tools, and dies, and to support CNC programming and machining in these applications.
Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience with Fidia, Heidenhain, or Fanuc machine controls. 3+2 5-axis machining experience is a plus. Experience machining 3D contour surfaces. Experience with injection mold core, cavity, component, or model machining. Experience with injection mold 2D plate machining and 2D component machining. Ability to work with CAM programming for mold, tool, and die applications.
Comfort working in a warehouse and manufacturing environment with multiple shops on a shared campus. Ability to work extended hours, including optional overtime, while maintaining accuracy and attention to detail. Why Work Here?
