Job Title: Data Center Fiber Technician Job Description This role supports a large-scale data center installation project, focusing on the installation, splicing, testing, cleaning, and certification of thousands of fiber optic connections across multiple data halls. You work in a fast-paced, high-volume, mission-critical environment where precision, safety, and adherence to project specifications are essential.
Responsibilities Pull and install armored fiber optic cabling throughout data center facilities and construction areas. Perform high-quality fusion splicing of fiber optic cables for multimode and single-mode systems. Test, certify, and troubleshoot fiber optic infrastructure to ensure reliable network performance. Clean and inspect fiber connections regularly to maintain optimal signal quality and minimize loss.
Terminate and label fiber optic cabling according to detailed project specifications and standards. Conduct OTDR and power meter testing to validate fiber performance and identify faults. Document all test results and maintain accurate installation, splicing, and certification records. Work safely in active construction and data center environments, following all site safety procedures. Coordinate with project teams to maintain installation schedules, quality standards, and deployment milestones.
Support high-volume deployments involving thousands of fiber strand connections across multiple data halls. Use appropriate hand tools and low-voltage practices while pulling wire, routing data cable, and handling fiber. Assist with troubleshooting and basic facilities-related tasks as needed in support of the data center build. Essential Skills At least 2 years of fiber optic installation and fusion splicing experience in a data center or mission-critical environment.
Proven experience pulling and installing armored fiber optic cable in large facilities or construction sites. Strong fusion splicing skills with the ability to consistently deliver low-loss, high-quality splices. Hands-on experience testing, cleaning, and certifying fiber optic infrastructure using OTDR and power meters. Experience working with multimode fiber systems, including installation, splicing, and testing.
Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, fiber cabling schedules, and related documentation. Comfort working rotating shifts, including nights and weekends, in a 24/7 project environment. Ability to work in a physically demanding construction setting, including standing or sitting for extended periods and working in dusty or cold conditions. General low-voltage and data cabling experience, including pulling wire and handling fiber and copper cabling.
Strong troubleshooting skills for fiber optic networks and related infrastructure. Proficiency using common hand tools safely and effectively in a construction and data center environment. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience with both multimode and single-mode fiber systems beyond core requirements. Copper cabling experience, including installation and termination. Exposure to power, cooling, racks, and structured cabling in data center environments.
Relevant certifications such as CSTS or similar safety and technical credentials. Background in electrical or construction environments, including familiarity with construction site practices. Experience as a data technician or in facilities maintenance supporting technology infrastructure. Why Work Here?
