Data Center Technician Travel-Based Contract Position About the Role We are seeking an experienced Data Center Technician II to support the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and decommissioning of critical data center infrastructure. This role is ideal for a hands-on technician with experience in server installations, fiber and copper cabling, hardware troubleshooting, and data center construction or refurbishment projects.
The successful candidate will work alongside a traveling crew on data center build-outs and upgrades across various project locations. Responsibilities Rack, stack, and install servers, network equipment, and related hardware. Install, terminate, label, and organize fiber optic and copper cabling. Support hardware upgrades, replacements, and decommissioning activities. Troubleshoot server, network, and cabling issues.
Read and interpret technical drawings, rack elevations, and installation documentation. Maintain accurate inventory records, cabling maps, and project documentation. Coordinate with vendors, facilities teams, and project stakeholders. Assist with power, cooling, rack, and infrastructure maintenance activities. Use hand tools safely to mount equipment, pull wire, and secure cabling. Support data center construction, refurbishment, and expansion projects.
Mentor junior technicians and ensure adherence to company standards and procedures. Follow all health and safety protocols while working around electrical and low-voltage systems. Qualifications Minimum 2 years of experience in a data center, telecommunications, or related technical environment. Experience with server racking, hardware installations, and structured cabling. Strong troubleshooting skills involving server, network, and cabling infrastructure.
Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and rack elevations. Experience working with fiber optic and copper cabling systems. Strong organizational and documentation skills. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision. Comfortable lifting up to 50 lbs and working on ladders, overhead cable trays, and raised floors. Proficiency using common hand tools and installation equipment.

Work involves hands-on installation and maintenance activities, including pulling cable, mounting equipment, routing fiber and copper cabling, and working within racks, overhead cable trays, and raised-floor environments.
Candidates must be comfortable working in both live technical facilities and construction-style environments while adhering to all safety requirements. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $30.00 - $37.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
