Job Title: Data Center Technician II Job Description This role supports the full lifecycle of critical data center infrastructure, including installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and decommissioning of servers and network equipment. You will rack and stack servers, install and test fiber and copper cabling, support hardware upgrades, and diagnose network and server issues in a fast-paced data center environment.
The position also involves coordinating with vendors and project teams, maintaining accurate documentation and inventory records, and providing guidance and mentorship to junior technicians. **** This position is based out of Prince George, British Colombia ******** 3/1 rotation $164.00 a day for Per Diem 3-6 months of work, could go longer and extend Hotels and flights are covered. Responsibilities Install, rack, and stack servers and related hardware in data center environments.
Install, terminate, and test fiber optic and copper data cabling to support network and server infrastructure. Support hardware upgrades, replacements, and decommissioning activities for servers and network equipment. Troubleshoot network and server issues, including connectivity, hardware faults, and performance problems. Read and interpret technical drawings, rack elevations, and documentation to ensure accurate installations.
Pull and route data cabling through overhead cable trays, raised floors, and other pathways in accordance with standards. Use hand tools and appropriate equipment to complete construction-related tasks associated with data center builds and refurbishments. Coordinate with vendors, contractors, and project teams to support new construction and refurbishment projects. Maintain accurate documentation, inventory records, and work logs for all installations, changes, and decommissioning activities.
Provide mentorship and day-to-day guidance to junior technicians to ensure quality and consistency of work. Adhere to safety procedures when working around electrical systems, low-voltage infrastructure, ladders, and elevated work areas. Support facilities-related tasks associated with data center power, cooling, and racks as needed. Essential Skills At least 2 years of experience with server racking, fiber and copper cabling, hardware installations, and troubleshooting.
Proven ability to work independently with minimal supervision in a data center or similar technical environment. Strong troubleshooting skills with the ability to diagnose and resolve server and network hardware issues. Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, rack elevations, and technical documentation. Strong verbal and written communication skills for working with project teams, vendors, and internal stakeholders.
Organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and maintain accurate records and documentation. Physical capability to lift up to 50 lbs and work safely on ladders, overhead cable trays, and raised floors. Familiarity with server and network hardware and general data center operations. Experience using hand tools and basic construction-related tools in a technical environment. Additional Skills & Qualifications CSTS or similar safety-related training or certification.
Experience working with data center power, cooling systems, racks, and cabling infrastructure. Background in low-voltage systems, facilities maintenance, or electrical and construction environments. Experience pulling and terminating data cable, including both copper and fiber optic cabling. Comfort working in rotating schedules or shifts to support project and operational needs. Prior experience mentoring or supporting junior technicians in a technical environment.
