Job Title: Precast Design Engineer Job Description This role focuses on the structural design, analysis, and detailing of precast concrete components and systems for commercial, industrial, and civil projects. The Precast Design Engineer collaborates closely with project managers, drafting teams, production personnel, and clients to deliver safe, efficient, and cost-effective precast solutions. This position offers the opportunity to help build out the engineering team in Sioux Falls and play an integral role in major local projects.

An active Professional Engineer (PE) license is required for this position. Responsibilities Perform structural design and analysis of precast concrete components and systems for commercial, industrial, and civil projects. Develop detailed designs, calculations, and specifications to ensure safe, efficient, and cost-effective precast solutions. Prepare and review structural details and connection designs for precast elements.

Collaborate closely with project managers to understand project scope, schedule, and design requirements. Work with drafting teams to translate design concepts into accurate drawings and models, ensuring clarity and constructability. Coordinate with production personnel to ensure designs are practical, manufacturable, and aligned with plant capabilities. Communicate directly with clients to clarify design requirements, address technical questions, and provide engineering guidance.

Use Revit and other design tools to create and manage 3D models and project documentation. Apply mechanical and structural engineering principles to optimize precast designs for performance and cost. Serve as a key engineering point of contact in the Sioux Falls office, coordinating with remote engineers and the broader engineering team. Review and verify the work of drafters and other team members to maintain quality and compliance with applicable codes and standards.

Essential Skills Bachelor’s degree in engineering, preferably in civil, structural, or mechanical engineering. Active Professional Engineer (PE) license. Proven experience with precast concrete design and concrete structures. Strong structural engineer with experience in structural analysis and design. Proficiency with Revit for structural modeling and documentation. Experience in mechanical or structural design related to precast or similar systems.

Ability to perform detailed calculations and prepare clear engineering documentation. Strong drafting and detailing skills, with the ability to work effectively with drafting teams. Excellent communication skills for collaboration with project managers, production personnel, and clients. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience working on commercial, industrial, and civil precast projects.

Familiarity with tools and software commonly used in structural and mechanical design, such as SolidWorks. Experience with specialized structural design tools or beam design software. Ability to help build and shape a growing engineering team in a developing office. Strong problem-solving skills and a detail-oriented approach to design and documentation. Work Environment The role is based in the Sioux Falls office, where the Precast Design Engineer will be the primary on-site engineer and the main point of contact for a team of three remote engineers located in Minnesota.

The position involves close collaboration with remote colleagues, project managers, drafting teams, and production personnel through both in-person and virtual communication.
