Distribution Designer Job Description The Distribution Designer will work within a Power Distribution Engineering team as part of a growing Power Sector, contributing to the design and development of power distribution projects. This role focuses on detailed design work, preparation of technical documentation, and collaboration with engineers, designers, and technicians to deliver accurate, efficient, and timely project outcomes.

Responsibilities Perform detailed design work for power distribution projects, including the preparation of drawings, specifications, and cost estimates for review and approval by the responsible engineer. Prepare manual and computer-assisted design and construction drawings of complex nature with high accuracy, neatness, and minimal errors. Apply a thorough understanding of drawings, specifications, and relevant industry and company standards to complete assigned design work.

Take a significant role in developing cost estimates, technical specifications, evaluations, and requisitions for materials and equipment. Assist in the preparation of engineering calculations to support design decisions and project documentation. Coordinate equipment deliveries and design development activities to meet established project schedules and milestones. Acquire on-site field data as needed to complete design work, monitor equipment performance, and verify installation conditions.

Provide limited direction and guidance to Designers and Technicians on assigned projects and act as a design leader on projects of minor complexity. May serve as a Project Coordinator on certain projects, overseeing design progress, documentation, and communication among stakeholders. Handle contacts with clients and external agencies in connection with project design responsibilities in a professional and collaborative manner.

Follow prescribed standards and procedures to ensure consistency, safety, and compliance in all design work. Demonstrate leadership and technical capability in carrying out assigned responsibilities and contributing to project success. Perform other related design and project duties as assigned. Essential Skills Thorough knowledge of practices and procedures in one or more of the following areas: Electrical Engineering, Instrumentation and Control, Protective Relaying, Transmission Design, Substation Design, Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Distribution Engineering, Surveying, GIS and Mapping, and CADD.

Proficiency in power distribution and distribution design principles and methodologies. Demonstrated ability and experience with GIS systems, preferably Smallworld or GWD. Demonstrated ability and experience with CADD systems, particularly AutoCAD. Ability to prepare complex manual and computer-assisted design and construction drawings with a high level of accuracy. Ability to interpret and apply drawings, specifications, and industry and company standards to design work.

Capability to participate in cost estimating, specification development, evaluations, and requisitions. Ability to coordinate equipment deliveries and design activities to align with project schedules. Ability to collect and utilize on-site field data for design and equipment performance evaluation. Strong communication skills to manage contacts with clients and other agencies regarding project design responsibilities.

Ability to follow prescribed standards and procedures consistently. Demonstrated leadership and technical capability to perform assigned job responsibilities. Clear and valid driver’s license and eligibility to drive on company time using personal or company vehicles. Additional Skills & Qualifications Degree in Electrical Engineering or Electrical Engineering Technology from an accredited college or university; other education and work experience may be considered.
