Drafter (Electrical Substation) Location: Lake Mary, FL (Greater Orlando) Description We are seeking a Junior CAD Drafter to join a growing Substation Design team in Lake Mary, FL. This is an excellent opportunity for recent graduates with a Drafting & Design degree or individuals with 1-3 years of CAD drafting experience who are looking to start or grow their career in the power and utility industry.
In this role, you will work alongside experienced designers and engineers to develop and update substation design drawings for electric utility projects. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, eager to learn, and interested in building a career in engineering design and power delivery. Responsibilities Create, revise, and maintain CAD drawings for substation and power delivery projects using AutoCAD and/or MicroStation.
Assist engineers and designers with drafting layouts, equipment arrangements, conduit routing, and electrical design documentation. Apply company drafting standards and procedures to ensure consistency and quality across all drawings. Review drawings for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with project requirements. Organize and maintain project files, drawings, and design documents. Incorporate engineer and designer markups into drawing revisions.
Collaborate with project teams to support design deliverables and project schedules. Learn utility and substation design principles while supporting a variety of engineering projects. Assist with additional drafting and design-related tasks as needed. Qualifications 1-3 years of professional drafting experience. Proficiency with AutoCAD. Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing accurate, high-quality drawings.
Ability to interpret engineering sketches, markups, and technical documentation. Basic understanding of drafting standards and engineering drawing principles. Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively in a team environment. Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite. Preferred Qualifications Associate's Degree in Drafting & Design Technology, CAD Technology, Engineering Technology, or related technical field Internship, co-op, or professional experience supporting utility, electrical, civil, or industrial design projects.
Exposure to electrical design projects. Experience with Revit, Civil 3D, Inventor, or other 3D modeling software. Familiarity with Bluebeam. Basic understanding of electrical systems, utility infrastructure, or engineering design practices. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Lake Mary, FL. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $28.00/hr.
