Job Title: Construction Electrician (Commercial New Construction) Job Description This role focuses on installing complete electrical systems for large-scale commercial new construction projects. You will work from the ground up, building underground distribution, conduit systems, power distribution equipment, lighting, and branch circuitry while ensuring all work complies with project specifications, NEC requirements, and site safety standards.
Responsibilities Install electrical systems for new commercial construction projects from rough-in through final completion. Read and interpret blueprints, electrical drawings, specifications, one-line diagrams, and installation details to plan and execute work accurately. Install EMT, RMC, PVC, and underground conduit systems in accordance with project requirements and codes. Measure, fabricate, and install conduit runs using mechanical and hydraulic benders.
Pull, route, and terminate power, lighting, and control wiring for various systems and equipment. Install cable tray, supports, strut systems, and electrical raceways to support wiring and equipment. Install switchgear, switchboards, panelboards, transformers, disconnects, and other power distribution equipment. Lay out and install branch circuits, feeders, and electrical equipment based on project drawings and specifications.
Install lighting systems, occupancy controls, receptacles, and specialty electrical devices throughout the facility. Perform electrical equipment terminations and verify proper installation and connections prior to energization. Troubleshoot and repair electrical components, panels, switches, and related systems as needed. Coordinate daily work activities with general contractors, project managers, and other construction trades to maintain smooth project flow.
Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area at all times. Comply with OSHA requirements, site-specific safety policies, and NEC standards in all work performed. Meet production schedules and project milestones while maintaining high-quality workmanship. Essential Skills At least 5 years of commercial electrical construction experience. Experience working on large-scale commercial construction projects.
Strong ability to read and understand blueprints, schematics, and electrical layouts. Extensive hands-on experience with conduit installation and conduit bending. Proficient in installing EMT, RMC, PVC, and underground conduit systems. Solid knowledge of commercial power distribution systems and equipment. Ability to install switchgear, transformers, panelboards, switchboards, and disconnects. Proficiency in pulling wire, routing, and terminating power, lighting, and control wiring.
Experience installing lighting, panels, switches, and electrical components. Ability to troubleshoot and repair electrical systems and components. Familiarity with NEC requirements and commercial construction standards. Ability to coordinate work with other trades and follow project specifications. Capability to work standard construction shifts and adapt to potential overtime. Willingness and ability to travel for work if required.
Additional Skills & Qualifications OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification preferred. Experience installing cable tray, supports, strut systems, and electrical raceways. Ability to interpret one-line diagrams and detailed installation drawings. Strong understanding of safe work practices on active construction sites. Experience verifying proper installation prior to energizing electrical equipment. Comfort working on complex, high-profile construction projects.
