Job Title: Field Service Technician Job Description The Field Service Technician travels extensively across the United States to support customers with installation, service, repair, and light commissioning of robotic and automated packaging systems. This role focuses on troubleshooting Rockwell/Allen Bradley PLCs and Fanuc robotics, making code edits and adjustments, and resolving issues on robotic palletizers, case packing equipment, and other large industrial automation systems.
The technician typically travels heavily during the week and is home most weekends, and may live anywhere in the U.S. while providing on-site support nationwide. Responsibilities Travel approximately 80% or more of the time across the U.S. to perform on-site service and support for automation and robotic systems. Install new robotic and automated systems, including palletizing, case packing, and material handling equipment.
Perform troubleshooting and repair of robotic palletizers, case packing equipment, and other large industrial automated machinery. Diagnose and resolve issues with Rockwell/Allen Bradley PLCs and Fanuc robotics, including controls, programming, and hardware. Read, interpret, and understand existing PLC and robotic code to identify problems and determine where issues may be occurring. Make edits, changes, and touch-ups to PLC and robotics code to improve performance and correct faults.
Conduct mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic troubleshooting and repairs on automation systems. Perform preventive maintenance on robotic and industrial equipment to reduce downtime and extend equipment life. Support small commissioning efforts for new systems, ensuring proper startup, configuration, and functionality. Collaborate with customers on-site to understand equipment issues, explain findings, and provide clear guidance on system operation.
Document service activities, repairs, and programming changes accurately and thoroughly after each visit. Use company-provided resources to schedule travel, lodging, and transportation in accordance with established guidelines. Maintain a professional presence at customer facilities and represent the organization positively while working independently in the field. Essential Skills 5+ years of field service experience working on industrial or automated equipment.
5+ years of experience troubleshooting and repairing robotic and industrial automated equipment. 5+ years of experience with Allen Bradley PLC programming, including reading, editing, and troubleshooting PLC code. 5+ years of experience with Fanuc robotics, including Fanuc controls and Fanuc programming. Strong proficiency in PLC troubleshooting, PLC control, and working with various PLCs within automation systems.
Hands-on experience with robotics and robotic palletizers, case packing equipment, and large industrial machinery. Solid electrical troubleshooting skills for industrial automation and control systems. Mechanical aptitude with the ability to diagnose and repair mechanical issues on automated equipment. Experience working with pneumatics and hydraulics in an industrial setting. Demonstrated ability to perform field service work independently, including travel, on-site diagnostics, and customer interaction.
Ability to read and interpret technical documentation, schematics, and programming logic for controls and robotics. Strong troubleshooting mindset with the ability to quickly identify root causes and implement effective solutions.
