Hiring for Grinder & Casting Operator in Abbeville, SC pays up to $16/hr! Able to start asap! Job Description The Grinder & Casting Operator is responsible for producing, finishing, and inspecting copper and brass castings throughout the foundry production process. This position involves operating casting equipment, pouring and handling molten metal, removing excess material, grinding and finishing castings, and ensuring all products meet quality and safety standards.
This is a hands-on manufacturing role in a hot, industrial foundry environment that requires attention to detail, physical stamina, and a strong commitment to workplace safety. Responsibilities Operate casting equipment and assist with the pouring, molding, and production of copper and brass castings. Prepare molds and cores for casting operations and ensure materials are properly staged and available.
Remove castings from molds and perform shakeout operations as required. Grind, sand, and finish castings to remove flash, gates, risers, and excess material using grinders, belt sanders, and hand tools. Inspect castings for surface defects, dimensional accuracy, and overall quality throughout the production process. Operate overhead cranes, hoists, carts, and material handling equipment to safely move castings and raw materials.
Maintain proper furnace, mold, and workstation conditions while following production schedules. Follow work instructions and production standards to meet daily output goals. Report quality concerns, equipment issues, or safety hazards to supervision immediately. Maintain a clean and organized work area and support overall foundry housekeeping initiatives. Follow all PPE requirements and foundry safety procedures when working with molten metal, hot materials, and industrial equipment.
Work safely and efficiently in a fast-paced, high-temperature manufacturing environment. Essential Skills Experience operating grinders, belt sanders, cutoff wheels, and other finishing equipment. Ability to work safely around molten metal, furnaces, and casting operations. Strong mechanical aptitude and experience working in a manufacturing, foundry, or metal production environment. Ability to inspect parts for quality defects and maintain production standards.
Experience using hand tools and power tools in an industrial setting. Ability to handle heavy materials and perform physically demanding work throughout the shift. Understanding of workplace safety requirements and proper PPE usage. Ability to work in a hot, dusty, and industrial environment. Additional Skills & Qualifications Previous foundry, casting, metal fabrication, grinding, or manufacturing experience preferred.
Experience with copper, brass, aluminum, iron, or steel casting processes is a plus. Familiarity with overhead cranes, hoists, forklifts, or other material handling equipment. Ability to read and follow production work instructions and quality specifications. Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality parts. Ability to work overtime and flexible schedules as production demands require.
