Job Title: HVAC Technician Job Description We are seeking a Commercial HVAC Technician to support facility operations at the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center (FLETC). This position is responsible for the maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, and operation of a wide range of commercial HVAC equipment across a mission-critical environment that requires 24/7 facility support. This is an excellent opportunity for both HVAC Technician I and HVAC Technician II level professionals looking to join a stable team with long-term contract potential.
Technicians will work under the guidance of a Senior HVAC Technician while supporting preventative maintenance programs and corrective repair activities throughout the facility. Responsibilities Perform preventative maintenance on commercial HVAC systems and equipment. Diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair HVAC mechanical and control system issues. Maintain and service VRV/VRF systems, chillers, cooling towers, RTUs, AHUs, split systems, and related commercial HVAC equipment.
Respond to equipment failures and perform corrective maintenance as needed. Complete work orders, maintenance records, and documentation accurately. Assist with equipment inspections, testing, and performance evaluations. Ensure compliance with all safety, environmental, and facility operating procedures. Participate in an on-call rotation as staffing levels and operational requirements dictate. Work collaboratively with maintenance technicians, electricians, and other facility personnel to support campus operations.
Essential Skills EPA Universal Certification required prior to start. Experience maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing commercial HVAC systems. Working knowledge of HVAC electrical, mechanical, and refrigeration systems. Ability to read and interpret equipment manuals, wiring diagrams, and technical documentation. Must possess a REAL ID or valid passport. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience with VRV/VRF systems.
Chiller maintenance and repair experience. Experience working with cooling towers, RTUs, AHUs, and large commercial HVAC systems. Previous experience in institutional, government, industrial, healthcare, data center, or campus environments. NATE, CATE, or equivalent industry certification. Work Environment This role is based in a large occupied federal training facility, encompassing a combination of indoor mechanical rooms, rooftops, utility areas, and campus-wide facilities.
The position operates on a day shift from 7:00 AM to 4:00 PM. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of North Charleston, SC. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $33.16 - $38.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
