Location: Onsite Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:30 AM - 5:00 PM Employment Type: Full-Time Contract Position Overview We are seeking an experienced Patient Access Representative to join our Sub Acute Admissions Department . This role is responsible for supporting the patient admissions process by verifying insurance coverage, securing authorizations, collecting patient demographic and medical information, and ensuring accurate patient account reimbursement.
The ideal candidate will have a strong hospital-based healthcare background , exceptional customer service skills, and experience navigating insurance verification and authorization processes. Key Responsibilities Verify patient insurance coverage and determine eligibility for services. Identify and obtain required authorizations and referrals for treatment. Utilize EPIC to complete patient intake, update records, and verify demographic information.
Authorize patient admissions and bed placements. Process claims, request authorizations, and attach referral documentation. Determine services requiring prior authorization and ensure compliance with payer requirements. Verify and accurately document insurance plans, including: HMO vs. PPO plans Medicare Medicaid Collect copayments and educate patients regarding financial responsibility and shared costs.
Communicate with case managers, physician offices, healthcare facilities, and internal departments to coordinate patient admissions. Support multiple locations and collaborate with remote departments as needed. Provide outstanding customer service to patients, families, and healthcare professionals both by phone and in person. Apply medical terminology knowledge to accurately process patient information and admissions documentation.
Required Qualifications Minimum 3 years of healthcare experience in a hospital setting. Strong experience with insurance verification, patient registration, admissions, and authorizations. Knowledge of Medicare, Medicaid, HMO, PPO, and other insurance products. Experience working with patient demographics, referrals, and claims processing. Excellent communication and customer service skills. Familiarity with medical terminology.
Ability to multitask in a fast-paced healthcare environment. Preferred Qualifications Experience using EPIC. Skilled Nursing Facility (SNF) experience. Bilingual in Spanish. Previous experience within admissions, patient access, registration, or revenue cycle operations. What Makes a Successful Candidate? Strong attention to detail and accuracy. Job Type & Location This is a Contract position based out of San Pedro, CA. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $24.00 - $24.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
