Job Title: Lead Data Technician (Data Center Technician III) Job Description This role oversees and supports the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and decommissioning of critical data center infrastructure. You will lead hands-on work such as racking and stacking servers, installing fiber and copper cabling, supporting hardware upgrades, and resolving network and server issues. You will coordinate with vendors and project teams, maintain accurate documentation and inventory records, and provide mentorship and oversight to junior technicians while ensuring high standards of safety, quality, and reliability in a dynamic data center environment.

Responsibilities Oversee and perform installation, maintenance, and decommissioning of data center infrastructure, including servers, racks, cabling, and related hardware. Rack and stack servers, ensuring proper physical installation, labeling, and adherence to technical drawings and rack elevation plans. Install, terminate, and test fiber optic and copper data cabling, including pulling wire and data cable through overhead cable trays, raised floors, and conduits.

Troubleshoot network and server hardware issues, diagnose faults, and implement effective corrective actions to restore service. Support hardware upgrades and replacements, including planning, staging, and executing changes with minimal disruption. Read and interpret technical drawings, rack elevations, and documentation to guide installation and maintenance activities. Coordinate with vendors, project teams, and other stakeholders to schedule work, resolve issues, and ensure project milestones are met.

Maintain accurate documentation of infrastructure, including inventory records, cabling maps, and equipment configurations. Provide day-to-day leadership and mentorship to junior technicians, including overseeing the work of at least two technicians. Ensure safe work practices when working with electrical systems, low voltage, and facilities maintenance activities. Use appropriate hand tools and construction techniques to support new builds, refurbishments, and infrastructure changes.

Stay organized in a fast-paced environment, managing multiple tasks and priorities while maintaining high-quality standards. Communicate clearly with team members and stakeholders using strong verbal and written communication skills. Perform physically demanding tasks, including lifting up to 50 lbs., working on ladders, and accessing overhead cable trays and raised floors. Contribute to continuous improvement of data center processes, documentation, and infrastructure reliability.

Essential Skills 4–5 years of experience with server racking, fiber and copper cabling, hardware installations, and troubleshooting in a data center or similar environment. At least 1 year of experience overseeing and guiding the work of 2 other technicians. Strong technical troubleshooting skills for network and server hardware issues. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while maintaining high standards of quality and safety.

Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, rack elevations, and documentation. Strong verbal and written communication skills for effective collaboration and documentation. Demonstrated ability to stay organized and manage multiple tasks in a dynamic environment. Experience with low-voltage electrical work, facilities maintenance, and pulling wire and data cable. Hands-on experience with copper and fiber optic cabling installation and termination.

Proficiency using hand tools and working in construction-oriented environments. Physical capability to lift up to 50 lbs. and work on ladders, overhead cable trays, and raised floors. Additional Skills & Qualifications CSTS certification or similar safety or technical training is a plus. Experience with data center power, cooling, racks, and structured cabling systems. Experience in new construction and refurbishment projects within technical facilities.
