Job Title: Lead Welder Job Description This full-time Lead Welder role is based in a busy job shop environment and combines hands-on welding with team leadership. You will oversee welding projects, guide welders on the floor, and ensure high-quality work is completed safely and on schedule. This position is ideal for an experienced welder who enjoys taking charge, solving problems, and keeping production flowing smoothly.
Pay $32-35 for Class A (6G Tig on Pipe Test) Responsibilities Lead daily welding operations on the shop floor and serve as the primary point of support for welders. Oversee a welding team to ensure welds are performed correctly and meet quality and safety standards. Provide guidance on welding setups, techniques, and best practices for MIG, TIG, and flux core processes. Perform hands-on welding as needed, including structural welds and pipe welding, to support production demands.
Read and interpret blueprints, fabrication drawings, and weld symbols to plan and execute welding projects accurately. Monitor workflow to keep projects on schedule and maintain efficient production in a busy job shop environment. Participate in and successfully complete required welding tests to demonstrate technical proficiency. Collaborate with other shop personnel to troubleshoot issues and maintain a smooth, organized work area.
Essential Skills Proven experience with MIG, TIG, and flux core welding in a production or job shop environment. Strong structural welding skills with the ability to perform high-quality welds on carbon plate. Pipe welding experience, including the ability to perform 6G pipe welds using TIG on 2-inch Schedule 80 pipe. Ability to read and interpret blueprints, fabrication drawings, and weld symbols accurately.
Demonstrated capability to supervise or lead a welding team and oversee daily welding operations. Ability to pass a 1G T-plate MIG and flux core welding test and a 2G open root bevel plate test on carbon plate. Comfort working in a fast-paced environment while maintaining quality, safety, and productivity. Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to make quick, effective decisions on the shop floor.
Additional Skills & Qualifications Previous experience in a busy job shop or fabrication environment. Experience providing hands-on training or mentoring to other welders. Background in fabrication work, including layout and fit-up. Familiarity with welding inspection standards and basic quality control practices. Ability to communicate clearly with team members and collaborate across departments.

Work Environment The role is based in a semi climate-controlled job shop environment with active fabrication and welding operations. You will work on-site with welding and fabrication equipment, handling a variety of plate and pipe projects. The standard schedule runs Monday through Friday from 5:30 a.m. to 2:15 p.m., with seasonal adjustment to approximately 6:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. when temperatures are cooler.
The setting is hands-on and production-focused, requiring appropriate work attire suitable for welding and fabrication activities, including protective gear aligned with safety practices.
